Jaguars RB Travis Etienne (Lisfranc) told reporters on Monday that he's been running in the pool and will resuming running on the field soon. He expects to be ready for the start of camp. Etienne underwent surgery on September 2 to repair the Lisfranc tear in his left foot. He was expected to be sidelined for 4 months, so it sounds like his rehab is on track. Etienne should be ready to roll for the start of the 2022 season. We can't say the same for RB James Robinson, who tore his left Achilles in late December.

Jaguars RB Travis Etienne is having surgery to repair his Lisfranc injury on Thursday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Etienne is expected to be sidelined for 4 months. So he'll miss his entire rookie season but should be able to participate in most or all of next offseason's practices.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Jaguars RB Travis Etienne will have surgery to repair a Lisfranc tear in his left foot and "likely" miss the entire season. That obviously delivers a big boost to James Robinson, who had been coming off the board well into RB3 range. It also brings Carlos Hyde into late-round view in fantasy football drafts. Robinson now looks like a RB2 with RB1 upside -- which he showed last year -- for fantasy.

Update: The Jaguars have put Etienne on IR, officially ending his season. A player must be on the 53-man roster as of 4 p.m. on Aug. 31 to be eligible for short-term IR.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Jaguars RB Travis Etienne suffered a mid-foot sprain in his left foot Monday night and is "out indefinitely." ESPN's Stephania Bell adds that recovery time for the injury can vary widely, so there's more to learn about the specifics of Etienne's situation. For now, the rookie should drop into the double-digit rounds of fantasy football drafts. James Robinson, meanwhile, becomes a solid-to-good RB3 with upside well into RB2 range. We'll see how much his ADP spikes this week. Carlos Hyde also becomes a late-draft consideration.

Jaguars RB Travis Etienne left Monday night's preseason game against the Saints with a foot injury and is officially questionable to return, according to ESPN's Field Yates. Jacksonville obviously has no reason to push him back into the exhibition. We'll see how serious the issue is beyond that.

Jaguars RB Travis Etienne has been busy and effective in the passing game early in camp, according to Sports Illustrated's John Shipley. The rookie "has shown terrific hands and burst after the catch," Shipley adds. It's still unclear how carries will be divvied in Jacksonville between Etienne and James Robinson. But Etienne is the clear favorite to lead the way in targets after catching 85 balls over his final 2 seasons at Clemson.

Travis Etienne will take all of his reps at WR at Jacksonville's rookie minicamp, HC Urban Meyer said. "Worst case scenario you have a RB with the skillset of a WR, best case scenario you have a hybrid player that can do both," Meyer explained. Etienne's role will be 1 of the bigger fantasy storylines of the summer. If he's a RB who plays a big role in the passing game, we're talking about Alvin Kamara. If he's more of a gadget, "hybrid" guy, he'd be in Nyheim Hines territory. We're still leaning toward something closer to the former, but it'll be worth watching closely. Etienne's ADP is sitting in the middle of the 4th round in recent FFPC best-ball drafts.

ESPN's Michael DiRocco reports that the Jaguars plan to use RB Travis Etienne "similar to the way [Urban] Myer used Percy Harvin" at Florida. In 3 years under Meyer, Harvin carried 194 times and caught 133 passes. The splits went 41 rushes, 34 catches as a freshman; 83/59 as a sophomore; 70/40 as a junior. "He's much more than a running back," Meyer said of Etienne. "He's a slash. He's got excellent hands and he'll be dual trained. [Dual-threat players] are hard to find, too, but if you can find one we know how to use him. With him I expect him [to make] an instant impact." Etienne will make for a tricky fantasy projection. His expected role, though, makes it more realistic to find worthwhile touches for both him and James Robinson. We'll certainly continue tracking this situation throughout the summer.

Jaguars HC Urban Meyer talked up RB Travis Etienne as a "matchup nightmare" after Jacksonville drafted him 25th overall. Meyer says the backfield plan is developing, which you'd expect at this point in the year. But he added (according to Jaguar Report): “I see Carlos [Hyde] and James [Robinson] the 1-2, downhill, powerful running backs. And I see Travis—there’s times where we could be in two-backs and Travis is a guy that goes out. Or we’re still playing with it, but he’s certainly a third-down back and he’s a guy that’s a match-up issue for the defense.” Etienne no doubt adds an element that neither Robinson nor Hyde provides. But the risk for fantasy football managers is obviously that he doesn't get enough touches to pay off as an early-round fantasy selection. We're downgrading the outlook for a guy who could have been the class' top fantasy option in a better landing spot.

Clemson RB Travis Etienne has landed with the Jaguars at Pick #25 in the 2021 NFL Draft. Etienne comes off a stellar 4-year career at Clemson, including 3 seasons as the clear lead back. He averaged 7.2 yards per rush and 11.3 yards per catch across 102 career receptions. Etienne never topped 14.0 carries per game in a college season, but even his 2020 rate of 18 touches per contest would give him plenty of fantasy upside in the NFL. Given the draft capital spent, we’d be surprised if that’s his pro ceiling. Etienne’s sub-4.5 speed gives him the kind of big-play potential that can win you fantasy weeks. There are shades of Alvin Kamara to his game. Etienne reunites with QB Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville but will also need to contend for touches with 2020 revelation James Robinson.
