Daniel Jones Injury Updates | Shark Bites

Giants QB Daniel Jones (knee) said recently that his goal is to be ready for the start of training camp. He's working his way back from a torn right ACL suffered in early November. “My rehab is going well,” Jones said. “I’m making progress. I’m three months into it, and I’ve started running on the anti-gravity treadmill. It’s going well.” Jones will be almost nine months removed from the injury when camp gets going -- and over ten months removed when the 2024 season kicks off. He has a good chance to be cleared by Week 1, although it's likely that his mobility is limited at least early in the season. That, of course, is a big part of whatever fantasy value Jones brings to the table. He's just a QB3 target in early best ball drafts.

An MRI has confirmed a torn right ACL for Giants QB Daniel Jones. That will obviously end his 2023 season. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero says to expect a nine-month recovery, which would put Jones potentially back on the field during 2024 training camp. His injury did occur about five weeks earlier than Cardinals QB Kyler Murray's 2022 ACL tear. We obviously can't assume the same return timeline for any player based only on a similar injury to another guy. But those timelines should give Jones a better chance of returning at least by sometime in the first half of next season. We'll certainly be watching for updates on his recovery in the meantime -- as well as watching how the Giants address the position in the offseason. Jones' contract still carries a $47 million cap hit for 2024 -- and a $69 million dead-cap number if the team were to move on from him. So you can at least bet on Jones staying central to the 2024 plays. Even beyond that, the dead-cap penalty would be $22.2 million for 2025 vs. a $41.6 million cap hit if Jones remains on the roster. Whether the Giants draft a QB early will likely tell us how much longer they hope to have Jones at the helm. The level of investment into the 2024 backup plan can give us hints on how optimistic they are for Jones' recovery. For this season, QB Tyrod Taylor (ribs) will be on IR for at least three more weeks, and HC Brian Daboll says it's not yet clear whether Taylor will make it back this season. So it could be Tommy Devito the rest of the way, which lowers the floor and ceiling for all Giants offensive players.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport hears that the Giants believe QB Daniel Jones suffered a “significant knee injury -- potentially a torn ACL" in Sunday's loss to the Raiders. He’s scheduled for an MRI to get a better look at the damage. With QB Tyrod Taylor on IR with the rib injury he suffered last week, the Giants will be down to QB Tommy DeVito. He was better vs. Las Vegas than last week, completing 15 of 20 passes for 175 yards, one TD, and two INTs. The Giants also have QB Matt Barkley on the practice squad.

Giants QB Daniel Jones left Sunday’s game in the first half with an apparent right knee injury. He went to the blue medical tent for further evaluation. We’ll let you know when there’s an update on Jones’ status.

Update: Jones has been ruled out.

Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) put in a full week of practice and isn’t listed on the final Week 9 injury report. He’ll start Sunday’s game vs. the Raiders. Jones won’t have TE Darren Waller (hamstring) but might get starting OTs Evan Neal and Andrew Thomas back. Both guys are listed as questionable. Jones is still only in play in 2-QB and superflex leagues.

Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) confirmed on Tuesday that's he's been medically cleared and plans to play vs. the Raiders this weekend. "Barring any setbacks this week, I'll be ready to go," Jones said. His return is well-timed with QB Tyrod Taylor sidelined with his rib injury. Jones is still only in play in 2-QB and superflex leagues.

Giants QB Tyrod Taylor is considered "week-to-week" with the rib injury he suffered in Sunday's loss to the Jets, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Taylor spent Sunday night in a hospital but has been released. QB Daniel Jones (neck) is expected back for Week 9. We'll see if the Giants add a QB or roll with Tommy Devito as Jones' backup for now.

Giants QB Daniel Jones has been cleared for contact following his neck injury, according to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. That makes Jones likely to return for the team's Week 9 visit to the Raiders. Jones reportedly gained clearance Sunday, the same day fill-in QB Tyrod Taylor went down with a rib injury. We'll watch for further updates on the situation throughout the week. Here's hoping you're in good enough shape at QB that you don't need to start any Giant in Week 9.

Update: HC Brian Daboll told reporters Monday that he expects Jones to practice Wednesday.

Giants HC Brian Daboll told reporters Monday that despite not yet having the results of testing on QB Daniel Jones' neck injury, he's "optimistic" about Jones' chances of suiting up Sunday against the Bills. We'll watch for confirmation on Jones' status. Although an active Jones against Buffalo doesn't look like someone we'd want to use in fantasy football lineups -- unless it's necessary.

Giants QB Daniel Jones had an X-ray on his injured neck and will get a scan on Monday. He said after the loss to Miami that his neck soreness and pain feels “similar” to what he had in 2021, according to insider Pat Leonard. Jones missed the final six games of 2021 with that neck injury. We'll keep you updated on his status.

Giants TE Darren Waller woke up with 8 grabs for 86 yards in a blowout loss to Miami. Waller set a season-high with 11 targets. Game flow always projected favorably for the veteran, and sure enough, New York quickly faced a double-digit deficit. Now, we’ll need to check on the health of QB Daniel Jones, who left in the 4th quarter with a neck injury. If he’s unable to go for Week 6 (at Buffalo), Tyrod Taylor will start.

Giants QB Daniel Jones suffered a neck injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Dolphins and was quickly ruled out. Jones missed the final six games of the 2021 season with a neck injury. We'll update this current injury when we know more. QB Tyrod Taylor replaced Jones vs. Miami.

Giants QB Daniel Jones (ankle) isn't listed on the final injury report and will start Sunday morning's game vs. the Packers. Jones put in limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday and a full workout on Friday. It's still tough to believe that he'll have his usual mobility this weekend, which takes away most of whatever fantasy appeal Jones has. QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion) is out for Week 5, leaving QB Davis Webb as the backup.

Giants QB Daniel Jones is considered "day to day" with the ankle injury he suffered in Sunday's win over the Giants, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Jones was able to return to that game -- after QB Tyrod Taylor left with a concussion -- and Rapoport says there's "optimism" Jones will be available for Week 5.

Giants QB Daniel Jones revealed that he underwent a "non-football-related procedure" on his neck this offseason. "I saw there was something about it," Jones added. "It was completely unrelated, but I feel good. Neck is great." Jones, of course, missed the final 6 games of last season with a disc injury in his neck. Whether this procedure was related to that injury or not, it's worth remembering that Giants insider Dan Schneier told us on the Draft Sharks podcast that Jones appears to have lost velocity on his throws this summer. It'll be something to watch closely early this season. Jones is no more than a risk/reward QB2 in fantasy drafts.

Giants HC Brian Daboll said Tuesday morning that QB Tyrod Taylor "probably will get snaps at some point this preseason with the first team offense," according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. Daboll followed that by saying the team has "full confidence" in QB Daniel Jones. But this seems like more than a just in case of injury scenario. Reports on Jones out of training camp haven't been good. We have to at least consider it possible that he gets yanked for Taylor at some point this season if the struggles spill over into the real games.

Giants QB Daniel Jones saw his 1st game action Thursday night since a November neck injury ended his 2021 season. “It felt good to get out there and it was just like it used to be,” Jones said afterward, according to ProFootballTalk. “I didn’t think a whole lot about the neck or anything like that. I felt good and it was just football.” Jones said he thought the offense got off to a good start. The QB went 6-of-10 for 69 yards over 2 series before leaving. The Giants came away with 1 FG over that span. Jones also ran once for 6 yards. He was going without Kadarius Toney, who figure to be the top WR come Week 1. We'll keep evaluating Jones as the regular season approaches.

"Something's up with the velocity on [Daniel Jones'] throws," Giants insider Dan Schneier told us on the latest Draft Sharks podcast. "Ball placement is something that's been waning for him since his rookie season ... it seems to be only getting worse. The velocity is a weird thing." Schneier wonders if the dip in velocity is related to the neck injury that Jones suffered last year. Schneier also notes that Jones has seemed to struggle with HC Brian Daboll's offense and with getting on the same page as his receivers so far in camp. There's plenty of time for that stuff to get ironed out, but the arm strength note is concerning. Jones is cheap enough in fantasy drafts that you can keep taking shots on him. But we're less excited about his 2022 value now than we were before talking to Schneier.
