Shark Bites

Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny is currently at 223 pounds, his lightest weight since high school. Penny played in the 230s dating back to his time at San Diego State. "He looks great," HC Pete Carroll said Wednesday. "He worked out here all throughout the offseason, and it really paid off. The best he's looked since we've seen him.” John Boyle of the team’s official site observed Penny looking “faster and more explosive” than he did in 2020. It’s a nice first step for the oft-injured RB as he looks to secure the #2 job behind Chris Carson. As the RB55 in FFPC best balls, Penny’s a fine late-round flier.

Recent Shark Bites

SI.com's Corbin K. Smith reports that Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny "showed up for camp in peak condition." The RB reportedly credits running sprints in the sand for "his improved conditioning and health," particularly in his surgically repaired knee and hamstrings. We'll see what comes of further camp reports on Penny and then any preseason action. But signs have pointed to the late-2021 stud getting 1st shot to lead this year's backfield in touches -- ahead of 2nd-round rookie Kenneth Walker.

The Seattle Times' Bob Condotta believes Rashaad Penny will be the Seahawks' "starter and the primary back." Condotta goes on to throw out a (ridiculous) 20-carry-per-game projection for Penny, adding that RB Kenneth Walker will get "most of the rest" of the carries. It's much more opinion than report, so we're not adjusting our projections for Seattle's backfield just yet. But it'll be a situation worth watching closely in training camp and preseason action.

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said RB Rashaad Penny is resting a slight hamstring issue. We’d typically avoid posting about a minor injury in May, but we’re talking about Rashaad Penny here. If he misses significant time in OTAs, we’ll let you know. Following the addition of Kenneth Walker, Penny looks like just a depth option in fantasy.

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said RB Rashaad Penny will "get the first shots" in the backfield. "He deserves it, he's earned it," Carroll said of Penny. Carroll was also quick to mention RB Chris Carson, though. "If we can get [Penny] and Chris back and battling, that one-two punch is all I could hope for," Carroll said. Seattle gave Penny a 1-year, $5.75 million deal with a little over $5 million fully guaranteed in free agency after his huge finish to 2021. That, of course, followed 3 mostly disappointing seasons to open his pro career. Penny is the ultimate risk/reward pick in early fantasy drafts -- but he's reasonably priced at a RB30 ADP in FFPC drafts.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the Seahawks have agree to a 1-year deal, $5.75 million deal with RB Rashaad Penny — with another $750,000 available via incentives. Penny exploded late last season when thrust into the lead role. If Chris Carson is all the way back from the neck injury that required surgery, we’ll likely be looking at some level of workload split here. We’ll watch reports on the situation as we move toward training camp
