New Commanders OC David Blough said shortly after his promotion that he planned to build his offense "around how do we get Terry [McLaurin] 10 targets a game." First time out we instead got 4 targets, 2 catches, and just 13 yards in Sunday's loss to the Eagles. WR Stefon Diggs and rookie WR Antonio Williams tied for the team lead with 4 catches apiece and easily outpaced McLaurin in yards per catch. Diggs more than doubled McLaurin (and any other teammate) with 9 targets.

We read rosy reports earlier this week about TE Chig Okonkwo and WR Treylon Burks at Commanders camp, but the team clearly believed it needed a pass-catching upgrade. So Wednesday brought an agreement with veteran WR Stefon Diggs, according to multiple reports. ESPN's Adam Schefter says it's a one-year deal worth "up to $12 million."

The Commanders continue to head toward the season with little proven depth at WR behind Terry McLaurin. That looks like good news for TE Chig Okonkwo, as well as former Titans first-round pick Treylon Burks.

Commanders GM Adam Peters expects rookie WR Antonio Williams to be able to play both the 'Z' and slot receiver positions. WR Terry McLaurin is locked in as the 'X,' but there's clear opportunity for Williams to earn snaps right away at those other two spots.

The Washington Commanders selected Clemson WR Antonio Williams in Round 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft. Williams entered the draft as one of the more polished slot prospects in the class (93% slot rate in 2025). A decorated South Carolina prep star, he broke out immediately at Clemson, leading the Tigers in catches (56) and yards (604) as a true freshman. Injuries derailed 2023 and shortened 2025. But when healthy in 2024, he delivered his biggest stat line (75-908-11). Williams wins with route craft, tempo changes, and fearlessness over the middle. He can also be a productive runner on jet sweeps and a plus option in the return game. But at 5’11, 187 pounds, he’s not built to dominate outside or win on size.
