Patriots WR Julian Edelman (chest) got in a limited practice on Wednesday. The fact that he was out there at all early in the week is good news. We continue to expect Edelman to play against the Bills on Sunday. We'll get another update on his status Thursday afternoon.
"He'll be good," a source tells NFL Network's Ian Rapoport about Patriots WR Julian Edelman. Edelman avoided structural damage to his ribs, so it'll probably be a pain-management issue going forward. We'll keep an eye on his practice participation this week, but we like his chances of playing Sunday against the Bills.
Patriots WR Julian Edelman suffered a chest injury in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game against the Jets and is officially questionable to return. We'll update his status when we learn more. Sans Edelman, Josh Gordon, Phillip Dorsett and Jakobi Meyers would be New England's top 3 WRs.
Update: Edelman has been ruled out for the day. New England's 30-7 lead might have something to do with that, but we'll look for an update on Edelman's injury.
Update: X-rays on Edelman's ribs came back clean, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Patriots WR Julian Edelman (thumb) has been activated from the Non-Football Injury list. He was spotted in full uniform on the practice field on Monday. The broken thumb he suffered in early July was never expected to cost him the start of the season, and he's clearly on track for Week 1. Edelman is a fine value at his 4th-round ADP.
The injury that has Patriots WR Julian Edelman sidelined for the start of training camp is a broken thumb, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The injury reportedly occurred when Edelman was playing catch 3 weeks ago. Rapoport confirms that Edelman is fully expected to be ready by Week 1. We probably won't see him this preseason, though, which could help us get him at a discount in fantasy drafts.
Patriots WR Julian Edelman is expected to be sidelined for "about 3 weeks" with a left thumb injury, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. That timeline would have Edelman back on the field by mid-August. So barring a setback, the injury shouldn't be an issue by the time Week 1 rolls around. We'll keep an eye on him, but we're not adjusting Edelman's projections right now. His absence leaves N'Keal Harry, Phillip Dorsett, Maurice Harris, Dontrelle Inman and Braxton Berrios as New England's top 5 WRs to open training camp.
Patriots WR Josh Gordon announced Thursday that he's stepping away from the team to focus on his mental health. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Gordon is facing another indefinite suspension for violating terms of his reinstatement under the substance abuse policy. Don't expect to see him on the field again this season -- and this could spell the end of Gordon's NFL career. It's obviously a significant loss for the Patriots. Gordon has played over 70% of New England offensive snaps since arriving and averaged 6.2 targets per game. WR Chris Hogan would seem like the big winner, but he averaged just 4.7 targets and 2.3 catches over the first 3 weeks before the Gordon trade. We should see some more WR Cordarrelle Patterson, while WR Julian Edelman, TE Rob Gronkowski and RB James White could also pick up an extra target or 2.
Update: Gordon has been suspended indefinitely for violating the terms of his reinstatement under the substance abuse policy. It's the 5th suspension of his NFL career and could result in permanent banishment from the league.
Patriots WR Julian Edelman's ankle injury is "not considered serious," ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. "He's not expected to miss much, if any, time," Schefter adds. Edelman is helped by New England's Week 11 bye. It sounds like he has a shot to be ready come Week 12. We'll keep an eye on him when the Pats return to practice next week.
Patriots WR Julian Edelman left in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game in Tennessee with an ankle injury. He's officially questionable to return -- but don't expect to see him back out there with New England down big. We'll look for an update on Edelman's status.
Patriots WR Julian Edelman is facing a 4-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Edelman has appealed the ban, so we'll see if it gets reduced. But fantasy owners should now be drafting as if he'll miss the first 4 games of the season. Edelman is returning from last August's torn ACL but had averaged 9.6 targets per game over the previous 3 seasons. So this is a big opportunity opening up in an offense that's finished top 12 in passing yards in an incredible 16 straight years. WR Chris Hogan is a good bet to serve as New England's #1 WR during Edelman's suspension. Jordan Matthews, Malcolm Mitchell, Kenny Britt, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson will battle for snaps behind Hogan.
The Patriots expect WR Julian Edelman to be ready in time for training camp this summer, according to the Boston Herald. Edelman tore his right ACL in August, timing that seemed unlikely to threaten his 2018 readiness all along. We'll certainly keep tabs on him as the coming season approaches. Edelman's a potentially strong value in early best-ball fantasy football drafts.
NFL Network's Albert Breer reports that an MRI on Patriots WR Julian Edelman's right knee confirmed a "complete ACL tear." He's done for the season and is tasked with a lengthy rehab. If all goes smoothly, he'll be ready for the start of training camp next year. But Edelman will be 32 years old at that point. He's signed in New England through the 2019 season with cap hits of $5.2 and $4.7 million over the next 2 seasons. We've already removed Edelman from the 2017 WR rankings and bumped up Chris Hogan and Danny Amendola. QB Tom Brady's projections took a slight hit, but he's still flush with weapons and sitting 2nd in the QB rankings.
