SI.com's Don Banks reports that the Eagles have reached a deal with Jim Schwartz to become their new DC. The former Lions HC and Bills DC spent 2015 out of the league after Buffalo hired Rex Ryan and didn't retain Schwartz in the wake of HC Doug Marrone's departure. Schwartz has spent 9 years as an NFL DC, 8 of those with Tennessee before he took over Detroit's head job. He coached top-8 defenses in his final 2 years with the Titans and led the Bills to #4 rankings in yards allowed and scoring D in 2014. That unit fell off quite a bit under Ryan's staff last year. Schwartz inherits an Eagles group with some talent but has always favored a 4-3 base front. Philly ran primarily out of a 3-4 alignment the past 3 years under HC Chip Kelly and DC Bill Davis but has some versatile defenders who can present value in multiple fronts. One pending free agent who will be interesting to watch is DE Vinny Curry, who has flashed as a pass rusher and might be ideally suited for a 4-3 edge role.

The Eagles have tabbed current Chiefs OC Doug Pederson as their new HC, according to insider Les Bowen.  The move won't become official until Kansas City is eliminated from the playoffs.  Pederson has spent the past 7 years working under Andy Reid, the last 3 as OC for the Chiefs.  Those offenses ranked 21st, 25th and 27th in total offense but 6th, 16th and 9th in points.  All 3 also finished among the top 13 in run rate.  Look for Pederson to install a run-leaning offense in Philly with RBs DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews.

The Eagles on Tuesday fired HC Chip Kelly, in a move that reportedly surprised even his players. ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that owner Jeffrey Lurie recently met with Kelly and shared plans to potentially reshuffle the organization, including taking personnel control away from Kelly. The coach reportedly "balked" at the idea, which might explain the irreconcilable differences here. It seems a little odd the team would make the move before the final game of the season, but that might tell us a bit about the working relationship here. Whatever the case, the firing will make this an even more interesting offseason in Philadelphia. Kelly built the current roster, including all the prominent fantasy positions. We'll see where the Eagles go at QB -- with Sam Bradford facing free agency -- and in general in the coming months.

Eagles CB Byron Maxwell suffered a sprained SC joint in Sunday night's loss to the Cardinals and might miss Saturday's game against Washington, according to Philly.com. Fellow starter CB Eric Rowe -- filling in for injured starter Nolan Carroll -- is also down with a concussion. Monday offered no update on his status. Obviously, missing their top 3 corners would not help the Eagles against a hot QB in Kirk Cousins and top WR DeSean Jackson. D-Jax burned Philly for 117+ yards in each meeting last year after Chip Kelly cut him in the offseason. Jackson missed this season's 1st meeting.

Eagles CB Byron Maxwell will get an MRI today to determine the damage to the shoulder he injured in Sunday night's loss to the Cardinals, according to NJ.com. X-rays during the game came back negative, but Maxwell never returned to action and was reportedly in obvious pain when speaking with reporters afterward. He looks iffy for Saturday's game against Washington. If Philly's missing him and fellow starter Eric Rowe (concussion), the defense would be down to E.J. Biggers and rookie Jaylen Watkins vs. Kirk Cousins and crew. We could see more big Washington passing numbers in this one.

The Eagles added NT Bennie Logan to the injury report Sunday morning and deemed him questionable for today's game against the Patriots. ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that Logan woke up with a swollen knee, though it wasn't immediately clear whether he suffered a particular injury in Saturday's workout. We'll update his status when the late-game inactives come out, but the kickoff time and uncertainty with the issue makes him not worth waiting for in your IDP league.

As expected, Eagles S Malcolm Jenkins is active today against the Dolphins despite suffering a concussion last week against the Cowboys. He admitted to playing through the injury in that game but had entered this weekend "probable." Use him as you normally would in your IDP lineup.

So much for the positive spin on Eagles ILB Jordan Hicks' pectoral injury. FOX's Jay Glazer reports that Hicks will hit IR after suffering a tear, which a Monday MRI must have revealed. That clears the way for Kiko Alonso to reclaim his starting -- and likely full-time -- job next to Mychal Kendricks. Alonso returned Sunday night from a Week 2 knee injury. Both Philly ILBs carry top-20 fantasy potential at their position the rest of the way

Updating a previous item, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Eagles expect ILB Jordan Hicks to miss 2-4 weeks with the pectoral injury he suffered late in Sunday night's win over Dallas. That's relative good news, because it indicates they don't believe Hicks suffered a complete tear -- which would end his season. The rookie will undergo further tests to determine the extend of the injury. In the meantime, it looks like Philly will be back to its season-opening duo of Kiko Alonso and Mychal Kendricks at ILB in Week 10 against Miami.

But there's plenty of time for him to return to IDP prominence beyond this week. And his return can only help the team D. Rookie Jordan Hicks has played quite well amid injuries to Alonso and Mychal Kendricks, so we'll see what kind of role he might retain now that both are back.

We'll see if he's ready for full duty, but we'd wait at least anothr week before getting Alonso into IDP lineups. Alonso's return will either push rookie Jordan Hicks back out of the starting lineup or at least limit his playing time.
