Niners LB Kwon Alexander got kicked out in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers after delivering a blow to the head of QB Jameis Winston, a former teammate. We'll see if the incident affects Alexander's availability for Week 2.

Niners DE Nick Bosa is active for today's opener against the Buccaneers. He only recently returned from a sprained ankle that kept him out for the preseason, though, and shouldn't be in IDP lineups.

Niners GM John Lynch struck an optimistic tone in talking about rookie DE Nick Bosa on KNBR radio Friday. "He's come along really well," Lynch said, referring to Bosa working back from his ankle sprain. But Lynch added that the top pick remains uncertain for the start of the year. "Week 1, that's, I don't know, 50-50," he said. "But it's going to be touch and go as to whether he makes it." If Bosa does manage to make the active roster for that game, it seems unlikely the rookie -- who missed all of the preseason -- would play a big role. We'll see how soon Bosa can get back to full strength and push for starter-level playing time. The Bay Area News Group reported that Bosa was out of his walking boot and working on conditioning with trainers at Wednesday's practice.

Niners HC Kyle Shanahan said Friday that DE Dee Ford will miss at least a week of action because of tendinitis in his left knee, according to multiple reports. Shanahan said Ford has had a platelet-rich plasma treatment on the joint, which he expects to help the issue. "He could've toughed it out ... but we feel good about where Dee Ford's at, and we wanted to make sure we took care of that so he could be fresh going into the year," Shanahan said. We won't alter Ford's projections just yet but will keep an eye on his return from this.

The 49ers will practice without top pick DE Nick Bosa for "the next few weeks" (according to NBC Bay Area's Matt Maiocco) because of a Grade 1 hamstring strain. That's the lowest level on the scale, so it's not a serious situation in May. But Bosa's hamstring will bear watching come training camp. His brother missed the 1st 4 games of his 2016 rookie campaign with hamstring trouble. Nick Bosa, of course, sat out nearly all of his final Ohio State season following sports hernia surgery.

The 49ers selected DE Nick Bosa with the 2nd pick of the NFL Draft. He'll quickly find time in a front 7 that sports DeForest Buckner primarily on the inside and just traded for Dee Ford. The Niners tied for just 22nd in the league in sacks last year (37). Bosa missed most of his final season at Ohio State but racked up 8.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss as a 2017 sophomore. Expect him to be a productive player quickly, and he should be a high pick in dynasty rookie drafts with IDPs.

The 49ers have agreed to send a 2020 second-round pick to the Chiefs for OLB Dee Ford, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. The Niners will also reportedly give him a 5-year, $87.5 million contract. Ford enjoyed a breakout 2018, tying for 7th in the league with 13 sacks and tying for 5th in total QB hits (29). The move should switch Ford to DE in the Niners' 4-3 base, which would add significant IDP value. Kansas City, meanwhile, has jettisoned the only 2 OLBs who played more than 41% of the defensive snaps last year. Breeland Speaks and Tanoh Kpassagnon are prime replacement candidates for Ford and Justin Houston. We'll see what else the Chiefs add this offseason.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the 49ers have reached a 4-year, $54 million deal with LB Kwon Alexander. They can't finalize the contract until Wednesday afternoon. Alexander will join a LB corps that saw rookie Fred Warner play mostly on the inside last year. We'd bet on Alexander taking over the middle, though, and Warner playing the weak side. There's room for both to produce quality IDP numbers. Alexander is coming off a left ACL tear, but the new contract indicates little concern over his recovery. We'll certainly keep an eye on his progress through the spring and summer. We'll also see whether the Bucs stick with 2018 rookie Adarius Taylor at MLB or go in another direction.

Niners S Jaquiski Tartt re-aggravated his shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Tartt has already lost 4 games to injury this season and hasn't reached 90% playing time since Oct. 21. He's not worth hanging on to in most IDP leagues at this point. If Tartt misses further time, Antone Exum would hit the IDP radar. He started in Tartt's place earlier this year and stepped in for the other half of Sunday's SS snaps.

Lee started 1 other game back in Week 2 and racked up 12 tackles (10 solo) and a sack. That's not enough to make him a strong option for Week 9, especially given Foster's saggy production. But there's potential IDP relevance for deep-leaguers.

The 49ers have ruled out SS Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) for Thursday night's game against the Raiders. They will also be without his backup, Antone Exum (concussion). That likely means the 1st career start for S Tyvis Powell. San Franscisco also lists CB Richard Sherman (calf, heel) as questionable. An already-weak defense looks even softer for Week 9.

Niners LB Reuben Foster (hamstring) and S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) each left Sunday's loss to the Cardinals early with injuries and did not return. San Francisco now plays Oakland on Thursday night, which will challenge the ability of either defender to make it back for Week 9.

Niners CB Richard Sherman (calf) is inactive for today's game against the Rams. That has no impact on IDP owners, and no one should have been considering using the San Francisco team D. The biggest effect here is that the Niners secondary now presents no real challenges for any L.A. wideouts. Josh Reynolds -- who joins the lineup with Cooper Kupp out -- gets an upside boost with Sherman's absence.
