Terrace Marshall Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Speaking at OTAs, Panthers HC Frank Reich gave his thoughts on 3rd-year WR Terrace Marshall. “We saw that last year with the reps that he got, the catches that he had, the big plays that he had. He shows that capacity to be a big-play guy,” Reich said. “The next step with every player is just more reps, more plays, more confidence where it’s like, ‘Hey, give me the ball.’” Marshall spent part of the offseason working with Mo Wells, a former LSU sprinter who also trains Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase. The goal was to build muscle with the hopes of avoiding injuries that’ve slowed his development. Still only 23, Marshall isn’t a name to forget in dynasty leagues. But it’s clear the Panthers’ new staff isn’t expecting much after adding Adam Thielen, D.J. Chark, and Round 2 WR Jonathan Mingo.

The Panthers agreed to a one-year deal with WR D.J. Chark. The 26-year-old missed six games in the first half of last season with ankle trouble but made some noise in the second half, averaging 57.7 yards on 17.6 yards per catch over the final seven games. Chark ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash at the 2018 Combine and is averaging 14.4 yards per catch through five NFL seasons. He adds much-needed juice to a Panthers WR corps that added WR Adam Thielen last week. Those two are the current favorites to open the season as Carolina's top two WRs -- although don't count out WR Terrace Marshall. The Panthers, of course, are expected to select their starting QB with the first pick of next month's draft.

The Panthers named Thomas Brown their new OC. The 36-year-old spent the past 3 seasons working under Sean McVay in Los Angeles, serving as RBs coach and then TEs coach. He bounced around the college ranks prior to that, with his only OC experience coming at Miami from 2016 to 2018. Those offenses finished just 54th, 60th and then 105th in total yards per game. The first 2 were pass-centric attacks, while the 3rd shifted toward the run. Brown will be working under offensive-minded HC Frank Reich in Carolina. We'll see who ends up calling the plays. There's a good chance that Brown is working with a rookie QB in 2023. The Panthers hold the 9th overall pick of this spring's draft and only have QBs Matt Corral and Jacob Eason on the roster currently.

The Panthers are hiring Frank Reich as their next HC, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Reich was fired by the Colts in November after getting off to a 3-5-1 start. But he went 37-28 across his first 4 seasons in Indianapolis, despite losing QB Andrew Luck just prior to the start of the 2019 campaign. Three of those 4 Colts teams finished top 9 in points; 2 of them ranked top 10 in total yards. Prior to arriving in Indianapolis, Reich spent 4 seasons as an OC -- 2 with the Chargers and 2 with the Eagles. Reich's offense was middling in his 1st season in both stops but improved to finish top 9 in yards in year 2. We'll see how Reich fills out his new staff, but this is a rock-solid hire for Carolina. The Panthers, of course, still need to find an answer at QB after cycling through Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker this past season. Mayfield is now with the Rams, while neither Darnold nor Walker is currently signed for 2023.

Panthers WR D.J. Moore came away from Sunday's win over the Seahawks with an ankle injury. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Moore will have an MRI today to determine the severity. Moore played all but 3 of Carolina's offensive snaps at Seattle, so we didn't notice the injury initially. We'll see about his status for a Week 15 home date with Pittsburgh, which has ranked among the league's best scoring matchups for WRs. Although Shi Smith and Laviska Shenault led Panthers WRs in production against the Seahawks, Terrace Marshall remained the only one close to Moore in playing time. They ran 25 and 29 pass routes, respectively, compared with 11 for Smith and 8 for Shenault, according to Pro Football Focus.

Panthers WR Terrace Marshall (shoulder) is active for today’s game vs. the Broncos. He’s not a recommended fantasy play against the league’s 4th-ranked WR defense.

Panthers WR Terrace Marshall (shoulder) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Broncos. He was a full participant in Friday’s practice, so he should play. But Marshall would be a shaky fantasy start against the league’s 4th-ranked WR defense.

An ankle injury for QB P.J. Walker pressed Panthers QB Baker Mayfield back into the starting lineup for Sunday's game in Baltimore. And Mayfield delivered more of what got Carolina's offense started so slowly this season. He threw for just 196 yards, 0 TDs and 2 INTs on 21-of-33 passing. WR Terrace Marshall was the only Panther to tally more than 26 receiving yards. He caught 3 balls or 76 on a team-high 6 targets. D.J. Moore managed just 3 catches for 24 yards on 5 targets. Bet on Mayfield bowing back out of the lineup as soon as someone else is ready.

The Jaguars are trading WR Laviska Shenault to the Panthers, according to multiple reports. It's a fresh start for Shenault, who had clearly slid down the new depth chart in Jacksonville. It's also an indication that Carolina remains unenthusiastic about 2nd-year WR Terrace Marshall. We'll see about Shenault's expected role and the terms of the trade.

Panthers WR Terrace Marshall returned for Friday night's preseason finale after missing the first 2 contests with a hamstring injury. He played 43 snaps but finished catch-less on 1 target. Marshall is off the redraft radar at this point.

Panthers WR Terrace Marshall missed Friday's preseason game against the Patriots with his hamstring issue, and it doesn't seem like HC Matt Rhule was very happy about it. "I was hoping he'd be ready for the game," Rhule said afterward, per Joseph Person of The Athletic. "But the medical staff and he worked on it; couldn't get ready for the game. We need Terrace to start practicing. We need him to step up." The former 2nd-round pick needs to get back on the field soon if he wants to start rebounding from the disappointing rookie campaign. Fellow 2nd-year WR Shi Smith stands to benefit if Marshall continues to struggle.

Panthers WR Terrace Marshall did not play in Friday night's 2nd preseason game after aggravating a hamstring injury, according to insider Joe Person. It's just another stumbling block for a guy coming off an ugly rookie season. There's still a clear path to #3 WR duties for Marshall, but he's not worth a pick in fantasy drafts right now.

Panthers WR Terrace Marshall sat out practice on Friday with a lower leg strain. HC Matt Rhule downplayed the injury, and we’d expect the 2nd-year WR back before long. Marshall projects as the #3 WR behind D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson.

The Browns are trading QB Baker Mayfield to the Panthers for a conditional 5th-round pick in 2024, NFL Network reports. The 2 teams "split the financials to make it happen," according to Ian Rapoport, so Carolina is presumably picking up about half of Mayfield's nearly $19 million 2022 cap hit. Mayfield is coming off a disappointing, injury-riddled 2021 season but played well the previous year, finishing 10th among 32 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' passing grades. In fact, Mayfield earned higher PFF passing grades in each of his first 3 NFL seasons than QB Sam Darnold has managed in any of his 4 NFL seasons. So Mayfield is a tangible upgrade for D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson, Terrace Marshall and Christian McCaffrey. Mayfield himself looks like just a middling QB2, although those weapons give him some weekly upside. Check out the updated projections for the Panthers offense.

Update: Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Mayfield agreed to shave about $3.5 million off his 2022 salary. The Browns will pay him $10.5 million this year; the Panthers around $5 million.

Panthers beat writer Joseph Person believes WR Terrace Marshall’s stock is on the rise. Person makes the call after observing minicamp, where the 2nd-year LSU product spoke confidently following a lost 2021. “It’s just a matter of time for the world to see what I can do,” he said. “Right now I’ve just got my head down grinding, taking it day by day, waiting on my turn.” Marshall is reportedly “more comfortable with his route running and processing,” according to Person. Only 22, Marshall deserves a look late in best ball drafts. Carolina's potential to swing a trade for Baker Mayfield only improves the WR's redraft outlook.

Panthers WR Robby Anderson tweeted Saturday that he's “thinking bout retiring.” Well, that came out of left field. Anderson, 29, was the subject of offseason trade rumors. But we expected him to open the season as the WR2 behind DJ Moore. Carolina opens its mandatory minicamp on the 14th, so we’ll learn more then. Should Anderson actually retire, Terrace Marshall's stock would get a considerable boost.

UPDATE: Anderson deleted the tweet on Saturday afternoon.

According to Ellis L. Williams of the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers “remain high” on 2nd-year WR Terrace Marshall. Williams writes that the team views Marshall as a good “outside target, slot receiver or zone-busting in-breaking target.” We simply didn't see it in 2021. Marshall garnered only 30 season-long targets (catching 17) and was a healthy scratch 4 times. Still, only 22 in June, it’s too early to give up on the LSU product. Marshall is essentially a no-risk pick in early 2022 fantasy drafts.

The foot injury that sidelined Panthers WR Terrace Marshall for Week 18 is a "short-term deal," HC Matt Rhule said Monday. Marshall is expected to be ready for OTAs. He can use all the practice reps he can get after a woefully disappointing rookie season.

Panthers WR Terrace Marshall has been placed on IR with a foot injury and will miss Sunday's finale vs. the Bucs. We'll look for more details on the injury and whether it'll impact his 2022 offseason. Marshall had a woefully disappointing rookie campaign, catching just 17 balls and losing playing time to guys like Brandon Zylstra and Shi Smith. He's worth keeping stashed on dynasty rosters but will be just a late-round flier in 2022 redraft leagues.

Panthers WR Terrace Marshall (concussion) put in a full week of practice and isn’t listed on the final injury report. He’ll be back for Sunday’s game vs. the Patriots after missing the last 2 games. Marshall averaged just 3.7 targets, 2.3 catches and 19.3 yards over the first 6 weeks, so he’s not a viable fantasy option right now.
