Trey Sermon Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Beat writer Eric Branch believes the 49ers could "hand off even more this season while easing in Trey Lance.” Last year, San Francisco ranked 6th in rush attempts (29.3 per game). Under HC Kyle Shanahan, the team’s ranked top-14 in rushes in 4 straight seasons. The 49ers were reportedly sold on Tyrion Davis-Price’s “size, physicality and aggressiveness,” per Branch. The rookie will need to earn a role this summer. But Elijah Mitchell’s durability concerns and a lost 2021 from Trey Sermon shows there’s a path to year 1 snaps for TDP.

The 49ers selected LSU RB Tyrion Davis-Price in Round 3 of the NFL Draft. The 6'0, 219-pounder ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at the Combine, giving him an 89th-percentile speed score among NFL RBs. He turned that into just 4.6 yards per rush across 3 seasons with the Tigers, though. Davis-Price took over the backfield in 2021, carrying 211 times for 1,003 yards and 6 TDs. He added just 10 catches, though that number did lead LSU RBs. San Francisco selected him in the same round it chose RB Trey Sermon a year ago. We'll see about the planned role for Davis-Price in his rookie season.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (finger) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Jaguars. With RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) also out, Jeff Wilson, Kyle Juszczyk and Trey Sermon will handle backfield duties. Wilson should see the majority of the work and is a solid RB2 play. WR Deebo Samuel could also see a handful of carries again.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (finger) is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game vs. the Jaguars. So much for that early-week optimism after Mitchell’s Tuesday finger surgery. RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) is out for Week 11, leaving San Francisco with RBs Jeff Wilson and Trey Sermon. Sermon might actually get on the field for the first time since Week 5, but Wilson should operate as the clear lead back. He’s a RB2 with upside.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Wednesday that RB Trey Sermon remains behind Elijah Mitchell and Jeff Wilson on the depth chart. “Trey had an opportunity (earlier this season) when guys got hurt and I thought he got better in each game with that. But he didn’t do enough for us to put him ahead of Elijah or Jeff," Shanahan said. Sermon could get some touches this weekend if Mitchell's finger injury keeps him out, but Wilson would be the 49ers RB to use in fantasy lineups.

49ers RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) is out for Monday night's game vs. the Rams. Hasty leads 49ers RBs with 18 targets this season, so his absence opens up some work in the passing game. It's a small boost to RB Elijah Mitchell's Week 10 outlook. RBs Jeff Wilson and Trey Sermon also figure to be active for San Francisco on Monday night but aren't fantasy options.

49ers RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) did not practice on Thursday. HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Hasty is in danger of missing Monday night's vs. the Rams. His absence could get RBs Jeff Wilson and/or Trey Sermon on the field -- but it'd also likely mean extra passing-down work for RB Elijah Mitchell.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (ribs) is active for today’s game against the Cardinals. He got in limited practices on Thursday and Friday and was listed as questionable. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this morning that the ‘Niners are “uncertain how long” Mitchell will be able to play through the rib issue. Consider him a risk/reward RB2. RB Jeff Wilson (knee) is also active and will make his 2021 debut in this one. RB Trey Sermon is a healthy scratch.

ESPN's Nick Wagoner reports that 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell is "dealing with a rib issue" and will be limited in Wednesday's practice. We'll see about his progress through the week. JaMycal Hasty operated as San Francisco's #2 RB for the 2nd straight game against the Bears. Trey Sermon has been active each of the past 2 weeks but played no offensive snaps.

49ers RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) will return for Sunday night's game vs. the Colts. He's been out since suffering a high-ankle sprain back in Week 2. Hasty operated as San Francisco's #2 RB -- behind Elijah Mitchell but ahead of Trey Sermon -- before going down. We'll see where he slots in the pecking order now, but Mitchell is the only viable Week 7 fantasy play in this backfield.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) is not listed on the final injury report. He practiced all week, including a full workout on Friday. Mitchell was operating as San Francisco's lead back before the Week 2 shoulder injury. RB Trey Sermon has been decent in his place the last 2 weeks, so it's unclear exactly how work will be divvied in Sunday's game vs. the Cardinals. Our guess is that Mitchell takes back over the lead role, but both he and Sermon look like risk/reward RB3 plays unless we hear more before kickoff.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Seahawks. That should again leave RB Trey Sermon in a lead -- but not featured -- role. The rookie played 59% of San Francisco's offensive snaps and tallied 10 carries and 3 targets last week. We’re projecting similar usage today.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) will not play vs. the Seahawks today, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Mitchell put in 3 limited practices this week but is still dealing with a lot of pain. RB Trey Sermon got just-ok usage with Mitchell out last week, playing 59% of San Francisco's offensive snaps and tallying 10 carries and 3 targets. See where Sermon sits in the updated RB Rankings.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Seahawks. He was limited in practice all week. Mitchell's availability on Sunday will come down to pain tolerance, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Mitchell will be a risk/reward RB3 play if active this weekend. If not, Trey Sermon will again be in play as a RB3 or flex.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday. That gives him a chance to play vs. the Seahawks this weekend. It was clear San Francisco didn't fully trust RB Trey Sermon in Week 3, so we're expecting a healthy Mitchell to re-emerge as the 49ers' lead back.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) is inactive for tonight’s game vs. the Packers. That leaves Trey Sermon, Trenton Cannon, Kerryon Johnson and Jacques Patrick as San Francisco’s active RBs. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported this morning that Sermon will get the "bulk of carries" tonight.

49ers RB Trey Sermon will "lead the way" and get the "bulk of carries" vs. the Packers tonight, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. We've heard the same from multiple 49ers beat writers. Sermon isn't the safest Week 3 fantasy play -- but he has loads of upside in a plus matchup.

49ers RB Trey Sermon (concussion) has been medically cleared and isn't listed on the final injury report. With RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) out and RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) doubtful, it's currently Sermon, Trenton Cannon and Jacques Patrick at RB on San Francisco's active roster. RBs Kerryon Johnson and Chris Thompson are eligible to be activated from the practice squad. HC Kyle Shanahan wouldn't say Friday afternoon who will get the start vs. Green Bay, but multiple 49ers beat writers expect it to be Sermon. We'll continue to look for clues on how the touches will be divvied.
