Washington S Su'a Cravens is having right knee surgery Tuesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Cravens hurt the knee in Washington's preseason opener, but it was said to be a re-injury of an issue that arose in college. Reports have treated it as a minor issue, and Cravens reportedly still expects to be ready for Week 1. Missing most of August, however, can't be good for a guy breaking into the starting lineup in his 2nd season. We'll see if he retains the starting gig come the regular season.

Washington OLB Trent Murphy tore the ACL in his left knee in Thursday's preseason game against Baltimore. Murphy was set to miss the first 4 games for a PED suspension, but will now spend those games on IR. S Su'a Cravens left the same contest with a knee injury, but his proved far less severe. According to ESPN's John Keim, Cravens "tweaked" an issue he originally suffered in college. If you're wondering what the heck that means, you're not alone. Word is he'll return to action in 2-3 weeks, though. We'll look for better info on the actual injury to gauge how concerned we should actually be.

Washington drafted Alabama edge rusher Ryan Anderson in the 2nd round. Anderson tallied 14.5 sacks and 30 total tackles for loss over the past 2 seasons. He'll play OLB in Washington but will need to wait before he can find a starting role. Ryan Kerrigan is signed through 2019. Preston Smith's rookie contract runs through 2018.

Washington spent the 17th overall pick on DL Jonathan Allen. The Alabama alum had been mocked into the top 5 plenty of times, but concerns about his shoulders obviously pushed him down the board. Washington's defense could get a nice boost if he stays healthy and pans out. There's IDP upside in a 3-4 DE spot.
