The Athletic's Matt Barrows expects to see "plenty of rotation" in the 49ers' backfield this season. That wasn't the case last year, when RB Elijah Mitchell dominated carries whenever he was healthy. But Barrows believes "the 49ers are hesitant to give Mitchell or any of the running backs too great a load this season" after Mitchell dealt with a variety of injuries in 2021. Barrows expects rookie RB Ty Davis-Price to be part of San Francisco's RB rotation. Trey Sermon, Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty are also on the roster.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Cardinals. Jordan Mason will again serve as San Francisco’s No. 2 RB – and Christian McCaffrey will continue to dominate backfield work.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Seahawks. Jordan Mason will serve as the No. 2 RB, but RB Christian McCaffrey will dominate work – at least as long as this game is still in the balance.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is doubtful for Sunday's game vs. the Seahawks. He's not on the fantasy radar, but his absence can't hurt RB Christian McCaffrey's already massive volume projection.
The Athletic's Matt Barrows tweets that 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan "praised Jordan Mason's play on Sunday. But it sounded that Elijah Mitchell, not Mason, would be in the lead role should Christian McCaffrey miss Monday's game." It's certainly more tea-leaf-reading by Barrows than actual reporting -- but noteworthy nonetheless. Both Mitchell and Mason should be owned in most fantasy leagues as we wait to learn more about McCaffrey.
49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is active for today’s game vs. the Browns. He figures to slide back in as the No. 2 RB but would be a desperation fantasy start.
