Seahawks RB Chris Carson is retiring from the NFL, per insider Ian Rapoport. According to Rapoport, Seattle will officially release him with a failed physical designation. It’s not a surprise, as Carson’s been sidelined with a neck injury since Week 4 of last season. His career ends with 769 carries for 3,502 yards and 24 TDs. Seattle moves forward with a 1-2 punch of Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Walker.
Seahawks RB Chris Carson admits that he has "no timeline" for return from his November neck surgery. “Not trying to rush it, I’m just trying to take it one day at a time,” Carson said. “Just keep rehabbing, keep getting better. Keep building strength and then go from there." The Seahawks re-signed RB Rashaad Penny and drafted RB Kenneth Walker this offseason, so they're not banking on having Carson available this season. He's nothing more than a late-round flier in early fantasy drafts.
The NFL announced changes to the 2022 IR rules, the most notable being that designated-to-return players must miss at least 4 games. It was a minimum of 3 games last season. Also noteworthy: A player can now be designated-to-return twice per season, rather than just once. These changes will be worth keeping in mind as you make roster moves during this coming fantasy football season.
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said recently that he doesn’t have an update on the status of RB Chris Carson. Recall that Carson underwent neck surgery around the start of December. “We won’t know for some time here," Carroll said regarding Carson’s status. "We can't predict that.” After re-signing Rashaad Penny and using a Round 2 pick on Kenneth Walker, it’s clear that Seattle isn’t counting on Carson going forward.
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said Monday that he expects RB Chris Carson to be ready for the start of training camp. Carson underwent cervical-fusion neck surgery in November to attempt to alleviate his long-term discomfort. We'll keep an eye on his rehab. Carson will turn 28 a few days after the 2022 season kicks off and is set to count $6.4 million against the cap this year.
Seahawks RB Chris Carson will undergo cervical-fusion neck surgery, HC Pete Carroll said. “So that’s a surgery that can get him back somewhere late in the spring, is what I’ve heard," Carroll added. The team believes this surgery will solve the long-term neck discomfort that Carson has dealt with, according to insider Gregg Bell. Bell, though, cites a 2016 study that found that only two-thirds of NFL players who had this surgery returned to play. The average timeline for return was 9 months, which would put Carson back on the field in August. We'll monitor his rehab this offseason.
