Shark Bites

Jets WR Denzel Mims was knocked out of Sunday's game vs. the Lions with a 1st-half concussion. WR Corey Davis is inactive with his own concussion, leaving the Jets with WRs Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, Braxton Berrios and Jeff Smith.

Recent Shark Bites

The Lions have waived WR Denzel Mims. He arrived via trade about one month ago, but Detroit will let him go with an injury designation (calf, ankle).

The Lions acquired WR Denzel Mims and a 7th-round pick from the Jets in exchange for a conditional 6th-rounder. That return tells you all you need to know about how Mims' career has gone so far. The 2020 2nd-round pick totaled just 42 catches, 676 yards, and 0 TDs across three seasons in New York. He turns just 26 in October and boasts a 6'3, 207-pound frame with sub-4.4 speed. But consider Mims a long shot for 2023 fantasy value. He at least finds opportunity for a Lions team looking for an outside-the-numbers, vertical threat.

Jets WR Denzel Mims got an early start with personal trainer Chad Marr in Texas this offseason. "He was here so early he was training with my major league ball players," Marr told the New York Post, adding that the football players don't normally join his sessions until after the Super Bowl. "Denzel was here long before that." Marr says Mims has added muscle while also slimming his frame after losing "quite a bit of size" amid bouts with food poisoning and COVID-19 last year. "It's really hard to come back from all of that during a season," Marr said. "We spent a considerable amount of time, about six weeks, just making him feel good." The trainer (of course) says Mims will "just tear it up" this year. We'd obviously expect his personal trainer to project such things for his client. And after catching just 31 passes through his 1st 2 NFL seasons, Mims has to prove he's worth any fantasy attention. He's a near-free shot to take as a dynasty stash or deep-league watch player, though. We'll see what coaches have to say about the wideout as we get into team workouts and then training camp.

Jets WR Denzel Mims will be a healthy scratch vs. the Patriots today, according to insider Brian Costello. Mims played just 3 snaps in the opener, so there's no fantasy impact here. Mims might be on the move before this year's trade deadline.

Jets WR Denzel Mims had a rough spring, working mostly with the 2nd and even 3rd-team offenses. But Pro Football Network's Tony Pauline hears that Mims has been much better lately, showing a better understanding of the new offense and producing on the field. He's "been the best receiver at camp in the past four days alongside Elijah Moore," Pauline writes, adding that Mims got reps with QB Zach Wilson and the 1st-team offense at a recent scrimmage. Pauline also reports that Mims dealt with food poisoning in June and lost 15 pounds -- which certainly explains some of his earlier struggles. This Jets WR corps remains fluid, so we'll monitor Mims and the rest of them in preseason action.
