Seahawks LB Jordyn Brooks tore his right ACL in Sunday's win over the Jets, HC Pete Carroll announced Monday. The late-season timing could threaten the start of Brooks' 2023 season. It might also affect the team's offseason decision on the 5th-year option for the former 1st-round picks. We'll keep an eye on all of that for a guy who has turned into 1 of fantasy's top-scoring LBs over the past 2 years. For Week 18, Tanner Muse is the next man up at LB. Expect Seattle to play more extra-DB alignments, though. Brooks and Muse combined to play just 66% of the snaps against the Jets.
Seahawks LB Jordyn Brooks left in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game against the Jets after hurting his right knee. It was a non-contact injury, with Brooks immediately clutching the knee and leaving after planting hard on his right leg. We'll watch for updates but don't expect to see Brooks for the rest of the game.
Update: Seattle has ruled Brooks out for the game.
Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports that Seahawks 2nd-year LB Jordyn Brooks is "set to become the full-time weakside linebacker" this season. That's not surprising, given that Seattle drafted him in Round 1 last year and has yet to re-sign veteran OLB K.J. Wright. The Seahawks also reportedly have 2020 second-round DE Darrell Taylor working out at strong-side LB. Taylor also got reps at rush end in recent workouts, but he's down 20 pounds from the 267 at which he entered the league. It sounds like Seattle is eyeing him in a role similar to what Bruce Irvin used to play: early-down LB, edge rusher in passing situations. He'll compete with Cody Barton for playing time at SLB. We'll see about that situation. Brooks, though, looks headed for a 3-down role -- next to Bobby Wagner -- and IDP sleeper status in 2021.
The Seahawks chose Texas Tech LB Jordyn Brooks with the 27th pick of the NFL Draft. Brooks spent 4 years starting for the Red Raiders: 3 on the outside before moving to the middle as a senior. Brooks ranks 5th in this class of off-the-ball LBs in speed score with a 96th-percentile mark. He also produced on the field: 4th-most solo tackles per game for 2019, 6th in market share of solos, 1st in tackles for loss per game and 5th in career solos per game. In Seattle, Brooks might shove K.J. Wright out of the lineup this year. We'll see about the Seahawks' plans.
