Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon found the end zone twice in Week 3 with 3 catches for 19 yards as a receiver. Fellow RBs Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire also had success in the blowout victory vs. the Bears, recording 15 carries apiece for a combined 117 rushing yards. Both Pacheco and Edwards-Helaire had 1 rushing TD as well. This game was a total demolition, and it’s unlikely we’ll see this many points from all three Chiefs’ backs moving forward. We’ll look forward to starting Pacheco again in Week 4 vs. the Jets.
Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon (groin) returned to a limited practice on Thursday. It gives him a shot to play vs. the Packers on Sunday night. McKinnon isn't a fantasy option, but his return would knock Isiah Pacheco from high-end RB1 status to lower-end RB1 status.
Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon (groin) did not practice on Wednesday. RB Isiah Pacheco moved into an every-down role with McKinnon out last week, producing 89 total yards and two scores. He's a locked-in RB1 if McKinnon remains out for Sunday night's game vs. the Packers.
Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon ranked fifth among RBs in PPR points (and ninth in non-PPR points) over the final 10 games of last season. He averaged 5.4 targets, 4.3 catches, 39.6 receiving yards, and 0.8 receiving TDs per game during that span -- all top-2 marks among RBs. McKinnon also ranked eighth among 43 qualifying RBs in Pro Football Focus receiving grade and 10th in yards per route run. He's in for some TD regression after scoring on nine of 56 receptions last year. But, with the Chiefs returning the same backfield, McKinnon should again play a big role in the passing game in 2023. He looks like a nice value at his recent RB44 PPR ADP. McKinnon sits a handful of spots higher in our 2023 PPR RB Rankings.
The Chiefs have held RB Jerick McKinnon out of offseason practices. There’s no injury to report, as the plan is all about keeping McKinnon fresh. “Last year was a long year,” he said. “I was fortunate to make it through the whole season — every game. But those hits definitely take a toll on you. Going into Year 10, older guy, so the thing about being here — the coaching staff, medical staff, everybody’s on the same page with coming up with a plan to make sure I’m good to go for the season.” The 31-year-old is in for TD regression after scoring ten times on 128 touches in 2022.
The Chiefs are expected to re-sign RB Jerick McKinnon, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. McKinnon played a big role in Kansas City's offense over the 2nd half of last season, particularly in the passing game. He averaged 4.7 targets, 3.7 catches, 33 receiving yards, and .6 receiving scores over his final 13 games (including postseason). The Chiefs didn't add a RB in the draft, so their backfield figures to look similar this year to last: McKinnon as the passing-down back and Isiah Pacheco as the lead ball carrier.
Update: The Chiefs have officially re-signed McKinnon, according to ESPN's Field Yates. See where McKinnon lands in the updated RB rankings.
