Ricky Pearsall Dealing With Lingering Shoulder Injury

49ers WR Ricky Pearsall has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since August 6. HC Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Pearsall partially dislocated a shoulder that was first injured in college. Shanahan hopes to have Pearsall available for the season opener against the Jets.

        What They're Saying

Shanahan on Pearsall's shoulder injury: “He did it in OTAs for the first time with us. When you do that, it’s tender. And then he re-did it here a couple of weeks ago. That makes it tender so you want to give him time to come back from it. ... We’ll see how he is. Hoping he gets into practice this week and if he does that’s a pretty good sign of his availability [for Week 1.]"

Insider Michael Silver: Pearsall “has a shoulder thing that is now recurring and I think worrying over the long haul, something they knew about before they drafted him and were hoping wouldn’t be a thing.”

Prior to the shoulder issue, Pearsall missed the start of training camp with a hamstring injury. He's only practiced for about a week since the spring and missed all three preseason games. The rookie is unlikely to be ready for a significant role early this season.

If he can stay on the field going forward and get some reps under his belt, Pearsall should emerge as San Francisco's No. 3 WR -- or No. 2 if Brandon Aiyuk gets traded. That might make him worth stashing in deep redraft leagues.

        Dynasty Impact

Silver's quote is a bit ominous for Pearsall's longer-term dynasty outlook, although it sounds like the 49ers knew about the shoulder issue before spending a first-round pick on him.

We'll continue to keep an eye on the situation but aren't moving Pearsall in the dynasty rankings right now.
