Jordan Mason Limited By Shoulder Injury

49ers RB Jordan Mason injured his left shoulder midway through the second quarter of Thursday night's game vs. the Seahawks. He missed the rest of the half, returned to carry on the first play of the third quarter, but then didn't play again. Mason was never officially ruled out and remained on the sidelines trying to keep his shoulder loose. HC Kyle Shanahan said after the game that they'd find out more about the injury on Friday. Mason was on his way to a big game, carrying nine times for 73 yards in less than one half of action.

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

We should get an update on Mason's shoulder injury on Friday. He gets 10 days to heal up before Week 7's showdown with the Chiefs.

Isaac Guerendo stepped in as San Francisco's lead back after Mason exited, out-carrying RB Patrick Taylor 10 to five. The rookie was mostly kept in check over his first nine carries -- but he busted off a 76-yarder to ice the game late in the 4th quarter. Guerendo likely could have scored but slid at the 5-yard line to keep the clock moving. Guerendo's 4.33 speed was on clear display on the long run.

If Mason misses Week 7, Guerendo will be the top fantasy bet in this backfield. We could see something close to the two-to-one carry split with Taylor we saw on Thursday night. That'd be enough to make Guerendo a RB2, or at least a strong RB3 play.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Thursday that Week 10 -- following San Francisco's Week 9 bye -- is RB Christian McCaffrey's most likely return date.
