The Buccaneers have fired OC Josh Grizzard, according to multiple reports. Grizzard spent just one season piloting the Tampa Bay offense after joining the team as pass-game coordinator in 2024. He spent seven years on the Dolphins offensive staff before that, working under head coaches Adam Gase, Brian Flores, and Mike McDaniel. Next season will mark the fifth time in five years under HC Todd Bowles that the Bucs have sported a different OC.
What They're Saying
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo: "Two names to watch for Todd Bowles' fifth OC in five years: Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, who impressed in his interview with Tampa last year, and Ravens OC Todd Monken, a former Buccaneers OC."
Ian Rapoport adds Falcons OC Zac Robinson to that list.
Fantasy Football Impact
Although the Bucs have spent each recent offseason finding a new coordinator, this year's change is different.
The past two departures featured Dave Canales getting the Carolina HC job and then Liam Coen taking over in Jacksonville.
Even Byron Leftwich before them spent four years in that post for Tampa and got HC interviews, though he hasn't coached anywhere in the NFL since leaving the Bucs.
Grizzard's Bucs actually ranked higher in points (18th) and total yards (21st) than Canales' 2023 unit (20th and 23rd, respectively). Unfortunately for him, that looked much worse vs. the Nos. 4 and 3 rankings of Coen's Bucs in 2024.
Tampa's 2025 total offensive DVOA also fell right in line with the non-Coen years under Bowles:
- 2025: minus-1.2% (18th in the league)
- 2024: 14.9% (seventh)
- 2023: minus-3.6% (20th)
- 2022: 0.6% (18th)
Throw in that this year included:
- seven missed games for RB Bucky Irving
- eight missed games for a recovering WR Chris Godwin
- nine missed games for WR Mike Evans
- 13 missed games for second-year WR Jalen McMillan
... and it's not a stretch to say that Grizzard might be a victim more of bad luck than bad performance.
His playcalling continued a trend of relative run-pass balance. The Bucs ranked 14th in total rushing attempts and 15th in pass attempts this season. They ranked 10th and 10th last year; 23rd in rushing and 19th in passing the year before (the first with QB Baker Mayfield).
Tampa's also dumping QBs coach Thad Lewis, who has been in that post for all three of Mayfield's Bucs seasons.
We'll see who the team taps next before projecting the impact on the offensive outlook.
