Does Chris Godwin Have Another Big Season In Him?

Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin was rarely, if ever, healthy last season. He missed the first three games working back from the serious ankle injury that ended his 2024 campaign. Then he made it just two games before a fibula injury knocked him out for the next five. He was mostly quiet over the final seven games of the season, although he did pop for a 7-108-1 line in Week 17. Godwin avoided any further setbacks, though, and has been able to spend this offseason working on his game, rather than rehabbing. "Anytime you have the ability to train for performance and not for recovery, it’s a huge difference," he said recently.
What They're Saying
Bowles on Godwin: “It’s important that he’s been healthy. Obviously his knowledge of the game helps the younger guys. But his route running is sharp, he looks smooth running his routes, and he understands the offense very well. We know the playmaker he’s going to be for us.”
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Godwin turned 30 in February, so it'd be unwise to expect a return to his heyday. But he could certainly re-emerge as a valuable piece for both the Bucs and fantasy teams.
Tampa Bay has a Mike Evans-sized hole to replace in the passing game. Evans averaged 8.5 targets per game across his 12 seasons with the Bucs and played an especially big role near the end zone.
The rest of Tampa's WR corps is unproven. Emeka Egbuka's rookie season got off to a hot start but faded badly from there. Jalen McMillan has played just 17 games through two NFL seasons. And rookie Ted Hurst has a huge jump to make from Georgia State.
There's room for Godwin to play a big role in the Bucs' passing game this year. And he's reasonably priced at a WR43 ADP.
