Bears RB Jeremy Langford (ankle) returned to practice on Tuesday, according to insider Brad Biggs. He's missed the past 4 weeks but appears to have a chance to return for Monday night's game against the Vikings. That'd turn what's recently been a 2-man committee into a 3-man backfield. Langford, Jordan Howard and Ka'Deem Carey are all better off on fantasy benches vs. Minnesota's 7th-ranked RB defense.

The Bears have signed RB Joique Bell. They needed to add depth to the position with both Jeremy Langford and Ka'Deem Carey injured. Bell was released by the Lions in February and remained unsigned all offseason. He's been held under 4 yards per carry in 3 straight seasons. The 30-year-old shouldn't be a threat to RB Jordan Howard's workload.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Bears expect RB Jeremy Langford to miss 4-6 weeks with the ankle sprain that knocked him out of Sunday night's loss to the Cowboys. That clears the way for Jordan Howard to likely take the backfield lead, starting with a solid home matchup against the Lions in Week 4. Howard should be owned in all fantasy football leagues. Given Langford's lacking performance so far, we wouldn't be surprised if Howard keeps the top job even after Langford returns. Ka'Deem Carey remains in the picture as well but is a limited player that John Fox's staff inherited from Lovie Smith & Co.

Bears RB Jeremy Langford has a sprained ankle, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. No word yet on the severity or whether it's a high-ankle sprain. Regardless, Langford looks extremely questionable for this weekend's game against the Lions. His absence would give rookie RB Jordan Howard a chance to take hold of the lead role.

Bears RB Jordan Howard rumbled for 107 yards and a score on 16 carries in Thursday's preseason finale. It was an encouraging showing after what was an extremely quiet August for the rookie. Note, though, that Howard played behind both KaDeem Carey and Jacquizz Rodgers and was still playing on Chicago's final possession. That's a good sign that Howard isn't part of the team's early-season plans. He's a fine dynasty stash but isn't worth rostering in redraft leagues.

Bears OC Dowell Loggains called rookie Jordan Howard a "change-of-pace back."  It's notable when most teams are calling their new guys "complete" or "do-it-all" backs.  Loggains hinted that Howard will be used in a specific role behind starter Jeremy Langford.  "Their skill sets are different," Loggains said.  "We'll use the skill set the way it needs to be. We won't ask them to both do the same thing, but we'll find out what Howard does well and we'll play to that."  We're not completely ruling out the possibility of Howard eventually passing Langford on the totem pole, but Langford will certainly head to training camp as the favorite for the lead job.

The Bears added RB Jordan Howard in the 5th round of the 2016 draft. A 6’0, 230-pound bruiser, Howard led the RB class with 3.7 yards after contact per attempt, per Pro Football Focus. He’s not a burner but displays good vision and enough shiftiness. With just 24 catches over 3 college seasons, Howard might settle in as a 2-down back. But he’s certainly capable of pushing Jeremy Langford in Chicago, especially in short-yardage and goal-line situations.
