NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that "early indications" are that Packers WR Randall Cobb avoided "a major injury."  All signs point to a serious injury.  Cobb was in obvious pain, couldn't put any weight on the knee and was carted to the locker room.  It's possible he avoided ligament damage, though.  We'd be surprised if Cobb wasn't out for at least a few weeks, but anything less than a season-ending injury would be good news.  We'll find out more tomorrow.

Packers WR Randall Cobb took a hit to the knee in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game.  His foot planted at the same time the knee got hit.  Cobb was in obvious pain and didn't put any weight on the leg as he was assisted off the field.  He was then carted back to the locker room.  His day is almost certainly through, and we're likely looking at a serious injury.  Green Bay already lost WR James Jones today.

The weather forecast for today's Redskins-Packers game calls for 60% chance of rain.  That's obviously not ideal for the passing games.  Wind isn't expected to be a factor, though, so we're not moving any of the players in this game down our rankings.  But it will be interesting to see how QB Robert Griffin looks on his surgically-repaired knee in the wet conditions.  NFL Network's Albert Breer says the 'Skins aren't planning on revising their game plan.  RG3 is a risk/reward QB1 in fantasy.

Packers WR Randall Cobb was limited throughout training camp by a bicep injury.  He played just 2 snaps this preseason.  But Cobb has been a full participant in practice this week and is ready to go for the season opener.  “I’m not having any problems with it,” Cobb said of the bicep. “I’m good to go.”  Despite a tough Week 1 matchup against the 49ers, Cobb is a must-start in fantasy.  He totaled 14 catches in 2 games against the 'Niners last year.

Although he's returned to practice, Packers WR Randall Cobb is still battling a bicep injury.  HC Mike McCarthy said Tuesday that the issue might linger, but that Cobb is in no danger of doing further damage.  "We understand what the injury is, and we wouldn't put him out there if he was jeopardy of moving forward," McCarthy said.  Cobb's status is worth monitoring, but we're not moving him down our WR rankings.

Only 2 players in Packers history have caught 100+ balls in a season -- Sterling Sharpe and Robert Brooks.  Randall Cobb could become the 3rd.  Aaron Rodgers is already on record that he believes Cobb can be a 100-catch guy.  HC Mike McCarthy is on board, too.  "He'll be given opportunities, there's no question about that," McCarthy said.  "But yes, I think he definitely has a lot more growth in front of him. And it's exciting, for how productive he's been as a young player."  Cobb caught 80 balls last year, despite playing just 651 offensive snaps (58th among WRs) and seeing 102 targets (32nd).  Both those numbers will climb in 2013 as Cobb takes on a bigger role.  He carries clear top 10 fantasy upside, especially in PPR formats.

Packers WR Randall Cobb has spent part of his offseason working on his routes from outside the numbers.  “I don’t want to work on just being a slot receiver,” he said. “I want to be a receiver, period. I want to be able to go outside, too. So one thing I’ve worked on this off-season, too, is my outside routes and trying to put that into my game so I’m not just labeled a ‘slot guy.’”  The 5'10, 192-pounder does his best work from the slot.  He ran 84.4% of his routes from inside last year and will do the majority of his work there in 2013.  The increased versatility can only help his fantasy outlook, though.  Cobb carries clear WR1 upside.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has big expectations for WR Randall Cobb.  "I think he can be a 100-catch guy," Rodgers said. "We haven't had that here in a while. But I think he can. I think he's a special player. As long as he can stay healthy, I think he's going to be a big-time star for us."   100 catches for Cobb doesn't seem far-fetched.  He hauled in 80 balls last year.  That was 14th among WRs.  He ranked just 35th at the position with 104 targets.  Cobb should see even more action in 2013 with Greg Jennings out of the picture.  And at just 22 years old, Cobb is only going to get better.  He has top-5 upside in PPR fantasy leagues.

The Packers are shuffling around their offensive line for the 2013 season.  Former RT Bryan Bulaga and RG Josh Sitton are moving to the left side, Aaron Rodgers' blind side.  T.J. Lang will move to RG, while Marshall Newhouse will head to camp as the favorite for the starting RT job.  Evan Dietrich-Smith, who played well late last year, will stay at C.  We like the moves for Rodgers and the rest of Green Bay's skill-position guys.  Bulaga and Sitton are the unit's most accomplished players, so having them on the left side makes sense.  And considering the Packers allowed 51 sacks last year -- 2nd-most in the league -- it can't get much worse.  “I think they’re going to be fine there,” Rodgers said. “It’s just a matter of all of us working together and getting used to their stance and the calls and the plays, but our offense can mirror itself at times with runs and passes. It’s the same terminology, so they’ll be fine. Everybody is on board with it and we’re excited to move forward.”

Packers WR Randall Cobb believes he still has plenty of room for improvement. “I really don’t think I’ve peaked yet,” Cobb said. “I’m 22 years old. I’ve got a lot of learning still to do. I have a long way to go and I just hope I continue to get better over the next years.”  Tough to argue with that.  Cobb is just 7 months older than rookie WRs Tavon Austin and Cordarrelle Patterson.  And remember that he entered the NFL as more of a gadget player than a WR.  Cobb is still learning the finer points of the position.  Set to take over Greg Jennings' spot as Green Bay's primary slot receiver, Cobb has oodles of fantasy upside in 2013 and beyond.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy says he'd prefer to take Randall Cobb off special teams in 2013.  That's a bummer for those of you who get points for return yards -- Cobb racked up 964 kick return yards, 292 punt return yards, and a score last year.  But it's also confirmation that Cobb will be a focal point on the offensive side of the ball.  With Greg Jennings' expected departure, Cobb will have the slot to himself this season.  That's where QB Aaron Rodgers loves throwing the ball.  Cobb could easily build on this past year's 80-954-8 line in 2013.

Packers WR James Jones can do simple math.  He believes the subtraction of free-agent WR Greg Jennings will mean the addition of more targets in 2013.  "It's exciting because it means more opportunities," Jones said.  His 98 targets this past season were a career high.  But Jennings didn't impact Jones' workload.  Jones saw 49 targets in the 8 games Jennings played, and 49 targets in the 8 games he missed.  With Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb still around, Jones' target upside is capped.  And while he should improve upon last year's 12.3 yards-per-catch average in 2013, he's unlikely to match the 14 scores.  We'd bet against him matching last year's 16th-place fantasy finish -- despite the departure of Jennings.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (ankle) is active for tonight’s tilt against Minnesota. Cobb’s back after a 1-game absence. Expect him to return to a substantial role in the passing game.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (ankle) is probable for Saturday night's game against the Vikings.  He put in full practices on both Thursday and Friday and appears to be at 100% for Green Bay's playoff opener.  Cobb averaged 72 total yards per game during the regular season and will be a key cog in the Packers offense this postseason.

Packers WRs Randall Cobb (knee, ankle) and Jordy Nelson (knee) both put in full practices on Thursday.  It's just more confirmation that they'll play against the Vikings this weekend.  And the injuries shouldn't impact their play.  Green Bay's passing attack will be at full strength for their playoff opener.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (knee, ankle) put in a limited practice on Wednesday.  He continues to be on track to play against the Vikings this weekend, although it'd be nice to see him get in a full workout.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (ankle, knee) says he's "100%" confident he'll play against the Vikings this weekend.  He put in a limited practice last Friday and was reportedly close to playing on Sunday.  This Saturday night's playoff opener will be just the 5th game Green Bay has its top 4 WRs available together this season.

3:17pm EST 12/30/12

Packers WR Randall Cobb (knee, ankle) is inactive for today's game against the Vikings.  He should be ready for the playoffs.  Greg Jennings, James Jones, and Jordy Nelson -- back from his hamstring injury -- will serve as Green Bay's top 3 WRs.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (ankle, knee) returned to a limited practice on Friday.  He's listed as questionable and looks like a game-time decision for this weekend's game against the Vikings.  Green Bay has plenty to play for -- they lock up a 1st-round bye with a win -- so Cobb will play if he's capable of helping out.  It's possible his snaps and effectiveness will be limited though.  If active, consider Cobb a risk/reward fantasy option.

Packers WR Randall Cobb plans on testing his injured knee and ankle on Friday.  He's yet to practice this week.  "We’re going to take it day by day and see where we’re at on Sunday," Cobb said. "We’ll test it tomorrow and see how much progression I’ve made over the past few days and we’ll see where we’re at on Sunday.”  Cobb added that playing against the Vikings is "a possibility."  It sounds like he'll be a game-time decision.  The Packers need a win to clinch a 1st-round bye, so we're expecting Cobb to play if he's capable of helping out.  Whether or not he can do so is the question.
