Packers WR Randall Cobb (knee, ankle) was unable to practice on Thursday.  HC Mike McCarthy said yesterday that Cobb would return to a limited workout today, so it looks like he's progressing slower than hoped.  At this point, we're not expecting Cobb to play against Minnesota this weekend.  But we'll see if he's able to get out there on Friday.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy revealed that WR Randall Cobb suffered both ankle and knee injuries in last weekend's game.  He's yet to be ruled out for the season finale though.  Cobb sat out on Wednesday but is expected to put in a limited workout on Thursday.  He'll then go through a test on Friday before being re-evaluated Saturday.  Cobb is shaping up as a game-time decision.

As of now, the Packers don't believe WR Randall Cobb's ankle injury is serious.  "The training staff on the field did not give me anything to believe that it was very serious," HC Mike McCarthy said in his post-game press conference.  Cobb is still scheduled for additional testing on Monday though.  "As you know with ankle sprains and joint injuries the next day is a huge indicator," McCarthy added.  Green Bay has the NFC North locked up, so they could rest Cobb in Week 17 even if the injury isn't severe.

Packers WR Randall Cobb suffered an apparent ankle injury in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against the Titans.  It didn't appear serious, but Cobb is likely done for the day with Green Bay up big.  He'll finish with 3 catches for 62 yards and a score.

As expected, Packers WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday night's game against the Lions.  He didn't practice all week and never had a shot to play.  Consider Nelson questionable for Week 15.  Meanwhile, Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings, and James Jones will serve as Green Bay's top 3 WRs in what should be a shootout.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy admits that WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) will be "hard-pressed" to play against the Lions on Sunday night.  McCarthy added that the injury is "not of a serious nature."  Still, Nelson already missed 2 games earlier this season with hammy problems.  Owners shouldn't be counting on him in the fantasy playoffs.  Look for Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings, and James Jones to serve as Green Bay's top 3 WRs for the foreseeable future.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Packers WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) is "unlikely" to play against the Jaguars today.  The team still plans on testing that hammy out in pregame warmups, but they really have no need to throw Nelson out there at less than 100% in an easily winnable game.  We'll update his official status around noon ET, but Nelson shouldn't be in fantasy lineups at this point. His absence will mean a bump in targets for James Jones and Randall Cobb, who are both high-end WR2s today.  WR Donald Driver also figures to play a bigger role, but he's just an emergency fantasy option.

As expected, Packers WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) was held out of Friday's practice.  He's listed as questionable for this weekend's game against the Jaguars.  The team will work him out in pregame warmups before making a decision.  It's a 1 pm ET start, so we'll know his status by noon.  If Nelson is active, he'll be a classic risk/reward fantasy option.  If not, WRs James Jones and Randall Cobb will see a bump in targets.  WR Donald Driver would also figure to play a bigger role but would still only be a desperation fantasy option.

Packers WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) reportedly won't even try to practice on Friday.  Beat writer Tom Silverstein says the hammy is "a little worse than first thought."  Silverstein adds that the team "may" test Nelson on Saturday or Sunday.  It sounds like the best-case scenario has Nelson as a game-time decision.  We'll continue to update his status as we learn more.  If Nelson can't go, it'd mean more targets for WRs James Jones and Randall Cobb.  WR Donald Driver would also figure to see an increased role but would be just a desperation fantasy option.

Packers OC Tom Clements hinted that WR Randall Cobb's offensive role will continue to grow.  "He's a productive player," Clements said. "Anytime you can get him the ball, whether it's out in the perimeter or in the backfield and give him room to operate, he can make plays. We try to give him the ball, and he usually does a good job with it."  Against the Rams this past weekend, Cobb was on the field for a season-high 74% of the offensive snaps.  He hauled in all 8 of his targets for 89 yards and 2 scores.  He also carried once for 19 yards -- his first rush since Week 3.  It's difficult to imagine Cobb's role in the passing game growing much, especially with Greg Jennings' impending return.  But Cobb could help boost a struggling ground game.  Regardless, he's reached every-week WR3 status.

With RB Cedric Benson out, the Packers will go with a "hot hand" approach in the backfield.  “I have no time for competition. We're going to take the hot hand,” HC Mike McCarthy said Wednesday. “Alex [Green] and James [Starks] both got reps today (with the starters) and so did Brandon Saine. The first carry will be Alex Green. He's a little farther ahead than James is right now and that's the way we'll go. But we have three halfbacks and we'll utilize all three of them."  Green will start against the Texans Sunday night, but Starks is capable of pushing for the lead role.  We're expecting Randall Cobb to play a bigger ball-carrying role too.  It's a fluid situation, and none of the Packers RBs are likely to provide anything more than RB3 or flex-level production.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (hamstring) is listed as probable for Monday night's game against the Seahawks.  He put in a full practice on Saturday and never seemed to be in danger of missing this game.  Against a tough Seattle defense -- and with Greg Jennings banged-up -- Cobb could play a big role on Monday.  He's a risk/reward WR3.

Packers WR Randall Cobb was limited in Thursday's practice with a hamstring injury.  While hammies are always worth monitoring, HC Mike McCarthy said afterwards that Cobb is fully expected to play against the Seahawks on Monday night.  His role is completely game plan dependent, making him a risk/reward WR3.

11:48am EDT 9/10/12

Early on this offseason. Packers HC Mike McCarthy talked about wanting to get Randall Cobb more involved on offense this year.  We found out what he was talking about on Sunday.  The Packers lined up Cobb all over, most notably in the backfield.  He took 18 snaps next to QB Aaron Rodgers in the shotgun.  In total, Cobb was on the field for 38 of Green Bay's 72 offensive snaps.  He finished with 9 catches on 9 targets for 77 yards, plus a 75-yard punt return TD.  “That’s what we’ve been talking a lot about,” QB Aaron Rodgers said afterwards. “He’s a big-time player, a great punt returner obviously. We’re going to try to find ways to get him matched up on positive mismatches for him out there. The more opportunities we can give him in space, there’s a lot of good plays out there he had.”  It looks like Cobb is set to play a significant role on the Packers' high-octane offense.  For more of his outlook the rest of the way, check out our Week 1 Free Agent Focus.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy spent the offseason scheming new ways to get the ball into WR Randall Cobb's hands.  “He is a versatile player,” McCarthy said.  "And it’s important to always try to create schemes where you’re giving people the opportunity to make plays.”  Cobb is expected to see more action at WR this season, likely supplanting Donald Driver as the team's primary slot receiver.  He's also been taking snaps from the backfield early on in camp.  "Judging by Cobb’s eye-catching start in training camp this year, it will be impossible to keep him off the field in Year 2 even though he’s going to continue as their primary return man," beat writer Pete Dougherty writes. "Through three days of practice, he’s made more big plays and been used in a greater variety of ways than any of their other receivers."  While Cobb may struggle for consistency among Green Bay's crowded group of pass-catchers, he'll have plenty of upside as a fantasy spot starter.  We love the plays this kid makes in the open field.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's season finale against the Lions.  James Jones is the best bet for significant playing time among Green Bay's WRs.  Jordy Nelson and Donald Driver figure to see a limited number of snaps.

Packers WR Randall Cobb missed Wednesday's practice with a groin injury.  HC Mike McCarthy revealed that Cobb will see a doctor, hinting at a potentially serious issue.  Cobb was in line to see an increased role in Green Bay's meaningless Week 17 game, but now it looks like he won't play at all.  We'll pass along an update when we get one.

Packers WR Randall Cobb (knees) put in a full practice Sunday and is expected to play in the season opener against the Saints on Thursday.  Cobb is expected to handle both kick and punt returns, but his role on offense figures to be minimal for now.  He's not a fantasy option at this point.

Packers rookie WR Randall Cobb suffered contusions to both knees in the team's 2nd preseason game.  He's reportedly in danger of missing the season opener.  Cobb will start the year as a return specialist and as the 5th WR.  He's more of a dynasty league stash than an option in redraft leagues.
