New Jaguars HC Urban Meyer didn't like WR D.J. Chark's 2020 film. "I just didn't like his size. His strength, I just thought, was way below average, way below what we expect from our receivers, and he was told that," Meyer said. "He's a big guy that played little last year, and that can't happen." Chark responded by putting on 7 pounds this offseason. "I love the challenge," Chark said. "I love talking to Coach Meyer. He's a competitor. He's going to push me." And how does Meyer feel now? "I love where he's at." We'll see exactly how Chark fits into Meyer's offense this summer, but the QB upgrade in Trevor Lawrence gives Chark a shot to have a nice bounce-back season.
The Jaguars selected Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence with the 1st pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. It’s tough to say how long we’ve known this would be the pick. Lawrence spent at least all of the 2020 season as the presumptive #1 selection. With 36 starts across 3 years at Clemson, Lawrence enters the NFL long on experience. He racked up 90 TD passes vs. just 17 INTs with the Tigers and earned passing grades of 90+ from Pro Football Focus in each of his 3 seasons. Lawrence brings accuracy in throwing to every level and adds rushing upside. He topped out at 563 yards on the ground as a 2019 sophomore and punched in 17 TD runs over the past 2 years. With Jacksonville, Lawrence inherits a talented WR corps led by D.J. Chark, Laviska Shenault and free-agent addition Marvin Jones. Lawrence has the upside to crack the fantasy top 12 right away and should be a long-term factor for his fantasy teams.
WR Marvin Jones has agreed to a 2-year, $14.5 million deal with the Jaguars, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. (That includes $9.2 million guaranteed.) Jones reunites with OC Darrell Bevell, who ran the Detroit offense the past 2 years and now serves as Jacksonville's OC. Jones also joins a receiving corps led by D.J. Chark and 2nd-year WR Laviska Shenault. Those 3 figure to lead the depth chart, leaving little room for Keelan Cole, Chris Conley or Collin Johnson to find relevance. Jones played all 16 games last year for the 1st time in 3 seasons, catching a career-high 76 balls for 978 yards and 9 TDs. His arrival complicates the target outlook for Chark and Shenault.
The Jaguars have named Darrell Bevell their new OC. Multiple teams were interested in hiring the 51-year-old, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, but Bevell opted to join HC Urban Meyer in Jacksonville. Bevell has 14 seasons of experience as an NFL OC. He spent the past 2 years in Detroit, where the Lions ranked near the middle of the pack in total yards and points. Bevell's units were better during his Seattle tenure from 2011 to 2017, with 5 of those 7 squads finishing top 11 in points. His offenses have generally leaned toward the run, with 10 of the 14 ranking among the top half of the league in rush attempts. Only 4 of them have finished top-16 in pass attempts.
The Jaguars have hired Urban Meyer as HC. It'll be his first foray into the NFL after spending over 30 years in the college ranks. Meyer most recently served as Ohio State's HC from 2012-2018, leading the Buckeyes to an 83-9 record and 1 national championship. He also won 2 titles among 6 seasons as Florida's HC and spent 2 years before that as HC at Utah. Meyer was reportedly infatuated with the idea of coaching incoming rookie QB Trevor Lawrence. (Who wouldn't be?) ESPN's Jeremy Fowler hears that Meyer is eyeing Scott Linehan as his OC, although that move isn't official yet.
The Jaguars have fired HC Doug Marrone, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Marrone went 10-6 in his 1st full season at the helm but totaled just 12 wins over the past 3 years. Jacksonville has already been linked to former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer. Whoever gets the gig figures to be working with Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence.
Jaguars WR D.J. Chark (shin) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Colts. It ends a disappointing season that saw the 3rd-year wideout post a 53-706-5 line in 13 games. With Jacksonville expected to use the 1st overall pick of this spring's draft on QB Trevor Lawrence, Chark will be a prime 2021 bounce-back candidate. WR Collin Johnson (hamstring) is also out for Week 17, leaving Laviska Shenault, Keelan Cole and Chris Conley as Jacksonville's top 3 WRs.
Ravens DE Calais Campbell (calf) and CB Marcus Peters (calf) are inactive for today's game against the Jaguars. Campbell's absence enhances the rushing matchup for Jacksonville RB James Robinson. A secondary missing Peters and CB Jimmy Smith helps the matchup for Jaguars WRs as well.
Jaguars WR D.J. Chark (ribs) isn't listed on the final injury report and will play against the Vikings this weekend. That's a plus matchup, and QB Mike Glennon played well enough last week to make Chark an upside WR3. WR Chris Conley (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game but is off the fantasy radar with Chark back. Keelan Cole and Laviska Shenault will serve as Jacksonville's #2 and #3 WRs.
Jaguars WRs D.J. Chark (ribs) and Chris Conley (hip) put in limited practices on Wednesday. Both guys missed last week's game vs. the Browns but have a shot to return for Sunday's game against the Vikings. We'll continue to keep an eye on their progress.
Jaguars WRs D.J. Chark (ribs) and Chris Conley (hip) are out for Sunday’s game against the Browns. WR Laviska Shenault is set to return from his hamstring injury and will join WR Keelan Cole atop the depth chart. Rookie Collin Johnson figures to operate as the #3 WR. It’s probably a situation to avoid with QB Mike Glennon making his 1st start with Jacksonville — but you can make an argument for Shenault and Cole as WR4s.
Jaguars QB Mike Glennon will start against the Browns this weekend, HC Doug Marrone announced on Wednesday. QB Gardner Minshew evidently isn't ready to return from his thumb injury, and the Jags have seen enough of QB Jake Luton. Glennon at least has 801 NFL pass attempts under his belt, completing 61% and averaging 6.4 yards per attempt. He's not a Week 12 fantasy option but should be an upgrade over Luton.
