Falcons WR Julio Jones (hip) is officially inactive for today’s game against the Steelers. Atlanta will hope to get him back for the big Week 16 meeting with the Saints. Harry Douglas will replace Jones in the starting lineup today. He posted a 9-116 line starting in place of Roddy White a couple weeks ago.

Falcons insider Vaughn McClure hears that WR Julio Jones (hip) will not play against the Steelers today.  It sounds like his pregame workout didn't go well.  It might be good news for fantasy owners because Jones would have been a high-risk play if he'd been active.  We'll find out his official status around 11:30 am ET.  Assuming he's inactive, Harry Douglas will move into the starting lineup and be a legitimate WR3 in a plus matchup.

NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reports that Falcons WR Julio Jones (hip) ran on Saturday.  Insider Orlando Ledbetter said that Jones could "barely run" this week, so he's clearly made progress.  Darlington confirms that trainers will test Jones' hip in pregame warmups before a final decision is made.  We'll be hunting for updates on his status all morning.  Continue to monitor Shark Bites.  For now, Jones remains a risk/reward fantasy play if he ends up active.

Falcons insider Orlando Ledbetter reports that WR Julio Jones (hip) "can barely run."  Ledbetter does not expect Jones to play tomorrow and believes he'll be a decoy if he does.  It's easily the most negative report we've heard on Jones this week, but Ledbetter is a reliable source.  Fantasy owners might be better off if Jones ends up inactive tomorrow.  If he plays, he'll be an extremely risky fantasy start -- albeit in a prime matchup.

Falcons WR Julio Jones (hip) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Steelers.  HC Mike Smith labeled him a game-time decision on Thursday, and it looks like that'll truly be the case.  Jones didn't practice at all this week, so we'll be looking for updates on how he looks in warmups on Sunday.  The good news is that we'll know Jones' status by noon ET.  He'll remain a must-start if active.  If Jones doesn't play, Harry Douglas will be a viable WR3 in the plus matchup.

Falcons WR Julio Jones (hip) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday.  Afterward, HC Mike Smith conceded that Jones will be a game-time decision for this weekend's tilt with the Steelers.  It'd be nice to see him get on the practice field tomorrow, but Jones will remain a must-start if he's active on Sunday.  We'll find out his official status by noon ET.

Falcons WR Julio Jones did not practice on Wednesday -- not a major surprise less than 48 hours after injuring that hip.  His practice participation on Thursday and Friday will tell us a lot more about his status for this weekend's game against the Steelers.  Check back tomorrow for another update.

Falcons HC Mike Smith didn't give much of an update on WR Julio Jones' injured hip on Tuesday, only saying that he's "sore."  It doesn't sound like Jones will practice much, if at all, this week.  "We’re hoping both these guys are ready to go at the end of the week," Smith said of Jones and S William Moore (foot). "How much practice time they’re going to get, we don’t know that at this point in time, but it is our intention to do everything in our power to have these guys ready to go against Pittsburgh."  We'll track Jones' progress closely over the next few days.  He has a juicy Week 15 matchup at home against the Steelers.

Falcons WR Julio Jones smoked the Packers for 259 yards and a score on 11 catches on Monday night.  But he finished the game on the sidelines with a hip injury.  Jones clearly wanted to re-enter, but Atlanta's medical staff took his helmet away.  We'll look for an update on his status tomorrow.  If available, Jones will have a juicy Week 15 matchup at home against the Steelers' burnable CBs.

Falcons WR Julio Jones has been dealing with a minor ankle injury that he suffered in Week 4.  Note that it's the opposite ankle from the foot that he's had surgically repaired twice.  He's been getting treatment since and been limited in practice, but it hasn't been an issue on Sundays.  Jones has played 123 of a possible 130 snaps over the past 2 weeks.  The ankle is something to monitor but not worry about.

Falcons WR Julio Jones admitted in August that he was still thinking about his surgically repaired foot.  That's no longer the case.  "I'm definitely to the point where I'm not thinking about my foot," Jones said Thursday.  "No restrictions."  That was the last hurdle for Jones to clear.  Consider him at 100% now and an elite fantasy option whenever he's on the field.

Falcons WR Julio Jones still doesn't feel like he's quite back to 100%.  "I’m almost back to the old Julio," he said.  “I can get up to speed good.  I can’t hold it as long as I want to hold it like over a course of game. Right now, I probably could give you 65 plays or so, I mean that’s a whole game, but the way that I play in the running game and everything, I want to be at full speed for the whole game. I don’t feel like I’m there yet.”  Even at 90 or 95%, Jones is one of the best WRs in the game.  He sure looked healthy on his 52-yard TD in Atlanta's 3rd preseason game.  Jones will be an elite fantasy option in Week 1 and whenever he's on the field.

Falcons WR Julio Jones popped a 52-yard TD in Saturday night's preseason game.  He took a short slant, shrugged off an arm tackle, spun away from another and out-raced a couple of Titans DBs to the end zone.  He finished the game with 2 catches on 6 targets for 63 yards and that score.  Jones' surgically repaired foot appears to be a non-issue at this point.  As long as he's on the field, he'll be an elite fantasy option.  Our issue remains the high injury risk he presents.  That has us shying away from Jones at his 1.11 ADP.

Falcons WR Julio Jones is nearing 100% physically after last year's foot injury.  But he admits that he's still not there mentally.  "Physically, we are there, but I am still progressing mentally," Jones said. "Just having that confidence I can go out there and run routes without thinking about my foot. “  A big play or 2 should have Jones fully trusting that foot again.  Still, it's a reminder that he's returning from a serious injury.  We're still skeptical about taking him in the late 1st or early 2nd round of fantasy drafts.

Falcons WR Julio Jones played 4 series against the Texans on Saturday night -- his first action since injuring his foot in October. He hauled in 2 of 4 targets for 20 yards. "I thought Julio looked good," QB Matt Ryan said. "It's good to have him back. Obviously, he's a dynamic player for our offense and somebody we feel like is a game-changer. I thought he did a nice job out there tonight." It's tough to draw any conclusions from this game other than the fact that Jones was able to get on the field. He figures to see a bit more playing time in Atlanta's 3rd preseason game.

Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) expects to play in the team's 2nd preseason game on Saturday.  It's a bit surprising but also encouraging that Jones and the Falcons feel comfortable enough to play him in an exhibition.  Reports on Jones' rehab have been positive all offseason, and that's continued this summer.  We don't doubt that he'll dominate when he's on the field this year, but the injury risk makes him a big gamble in the late 1st or early 2nd round of fantasy drafts.

Falcons WR Julio Jones told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that "everything feels great" with his repaired foot and that he's fine with whatever the coaches decide for his use in preseason games.  "That’s the coaches’ decision. I’m just here doing whatever they want me to do," he said.  "I miss football, but just being able to be back out there and run around, feels good.  Possibly, the third game.  We’ve been doing a lot of timing and everything.  I’ve been with Matt, this will be my fourth year.  We got the timing and everything down.”  There's no word yet on what the coaches plan to do, but we'd expect limited exposure for Jones in exhibition action.  That's fine for fantasy owners, who don't really need to see how good he is.  The only factor that truly matters is whether he can stay healthy.

Falcons WR Julio Jones looked "spectacular" in Sunday's practice, according to insider Vaughn McClure.  Jones is only practicing every other day as he returns from last year's foot surgery, but it doesn't sound like he's showing any ill effects.  "His explosion was evident with every step, and he blew past [CB] Desmond Trufant on a play during one-on-one drills."  We're not concerned about Jones' ability to dominate when on the field.  But he remains a significant risk in the late 1st or early 2nd round of fantasy drafts.

Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) has been cleared to take the field when training camp kicks off on Friday. It'll be his first work with the full squad since suffering his foot injury last October. He was limited to running off to the side all spring. The team will still monitor his reps in camp, though. "He will be limited in terms of his snaps," HC Mike Smith said. "Our number-one goal is to make sure that we've got everybody as healthy as we possibly can be, but we know that we have to get these guys some work together and reps. Julio will be out there participating in practice right from the start." Atlanta has played it safe with Jones' rehab from the start and won't change now. He's still on track to be a full go for Week 1 and will bring huge fantasy upside whenever he's on the field. But Jones carries a bit too much risk for us to jump on board at his current 1.11 ADP.

Dr. Robert Anderson, who performed Falcons WR Julio Jones' foot surgery last year, recently published a study looking at the results of 21 surgeries like the one Jones underwent.  (Twelve of those were on football players.)  Anderson's study found that all 21 athletes "were able to return to their previous level of athletic competition."  Only 1 experienced re-injury, and that was a result of a car accident.  It's good news for Jones' outlook going forward.  He should still be considered an injury risk considering he's played 16 games in just 1 of 3 NFL seasons.  But Jones possesses huge fantasy upside whenever he's on the field.  We'd love to snag him in the mid or late 2nd round, but Jones' ADP is currently sitting in the last 1st.
