When asked if Houston would play Sunday against the Buccaneers, HC Andy Reid said, "We're headed in that direction," according to B.J. Kissel of KCTV5. We'll see if there's any word on Houston's role. It's tough to expect a full snap allotment immediately, but he's also capable of significant sack upside even in limited work. We'd lean toward trying him in deeper sack-heavy IDP formats while holding off in more balanced or shallower leagues.

Look for a rotation in the regular season -- one that will be missing 1 of the league's top pass rushers.

Chiefs S Eric Berry returned over the weekend after finally signing his franchise tender. According to Arrowhead Pride, HC Andy Reid said he's "leaning against" playing Berry in the final preseason game. It'd be nice to have Berry see some game action before the season, but it's also tough to worry about a guy who returned from chemo to play a full season and garner a top position rating from Pro Football Focus last year. The abundance of usable IDP options at DB and fairly late spot at which you can draft him also makes for minimal risk. Berry's return can only be good news for a Chiefs D still missing star pass rusher OLB Justin Houston.

The Chiefs on Monday activated OLB Tamba Hali off the PUP list, according to The Kansas City Star. Hali has been out since an offseason knee scope. Hali missed most Chiefs practices last year as well while dealing with the knee trouble. But he only sat out 1 game and delivered a solid 48 tackles and 6.5 sacks. The 32-year-old can be OK without much camp time. Though even at full health, he's not a high-end IDP option.

The Chiefs spent the 37th overall pick of the NFL Draft on DL Chris Jones. It was K.C.'s 1st selection after the team traded out of Round 1 with San Francisco. Jones could play DE in the Chiefs' 3-4 front and/or potentially over at NT should Dontari Poe leave after this final year on his contract. Jones didn't tally more than 3 sacks in any college season and doesn't look like a strong IDP candidate for fantasy football owners.

Good news for IDP owners on Chiefs OLB Justin Houston. "Our doctors have reassured us that Justin will be playing this season," GM John Dorsey told Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star. That was reportedly in question after Houston unexpectedly required ACL surgery in February. We'll keep an eye on his progress and participation through the summer, but expect Houston to be in the defensive mix for the coming season.

Chiefs OLB Justin Houston required an unexpected ACL repair in February, which might put his 2016 season in jeopardy. According to Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder, a 2nd knee scope by Dr. James Andrews after January's playoff exit revealed that Houston's ACL "was intact" but that it "wasn't functioning properly." (Houston initially hyperextended the knee in Week 12.) Andrews reportedly fixed that issue, but Houston still faces a 6-12 month recovery window. From February, of course, that would be the difference between August or next February. We'll see how Houston progresses into and through the summer, but IDP owners clearly won't be able to count on him come fantasy draft time. The situation creates opportunity for OLB Dee Ford, whom teammate Tamba Hali recently challenged to improve his preparation. The Chiefs also re-signed Hali and OLB Frank Zombo this offseason and added OLB Jonathan Massaquoi

Chiefs DE Jaye Howard has reached a 2-year deal to stay in Kansas City, worth up to $12 million. Howard posted a career-high 5.5 sacks in his 1st full season as a full-time starter last year. He carries a decent IDP profile.

Chiefs OLB Tamba Hali reached a new 3-year deal to stay in Kansas City in advance of free agency. At 32, Hali appears likely to finish his career with the Chiefs. He's a marginal IDP option but helps the team D with his pressure. K.C. also added OLB Jonathan Massaquoi for depth when free agency opened Wednesday.
