The 49ers promoted RB Kerryon Johnson from the practice squad to the active roster. He's now eligible to play against the Packers on Sunday night. Johnson joined the team 2 weeks ago. We'll see how big a role he plays in Week 3 -- if he plays at all. But he shouldn't be in fantasy lineups. San Francisco placed RB JaMycal Hasty (ankle) on IR in a corresponding roster move.
49ers GM John Lynch called RB Elijah Mitchell (shoulder) "very questionable" for Sunday night's game against the Packers. We'll see if Mitchell does anything in practice later today -- and then how he's listed on the final injury report. RB Trey Sermon's Week 3 status is also up in the air with his concussion. Trenton Cannon and Jacques Patrick are the only healthy RBs on San Francisco's active roster. RB Kerryon Johnson is a potential practice-squad callup.
The 49ers signed RB Kerryon Johnson to the practice squad. Johnson was a 2nd-round pick just 3 years ago but hasn't been fantasy relevant since his rookie season. He averaged 3.6 and then 3.5 yards per carry for the Lions in 2019 and 2020 -- and was cut by the Eagles this summer. There's obviously opportunity in San Francisco after RB Raheem Mostert's season-ending knee injury, but we wouldn't bet on Johnson capitalizing on it. He's only worth stashing in deep fantasy leagues.
The Eagles waived RB Kerryon Johnson. The former Lion recently suffered a knee injury that's believed to be a sprain. For now, Philly will move forward with Boston Scott, Kenneth Gainwell and Jordan Howard behind Miles Sanders.
Eagles RB Kerryon Johnson is week to week with a knee injury, according to NBC Philly's Dave Zangaro. Johnson already seemed to be behind RB Jordan Howard on the depth chart -- and this injury might kill his chances of making the final roster. Johnson is off the fantasy radar right now.
The Eagles on Friday signed RB Kerryon Johnson. He slipped to just 3.3 carries and 1.2 receptions per game last season, with D'Andre Swift in the mix -- despite playing in all 16 games for the 1st time in his 3 years. Johnson joins a Philly backfield with Miles Sanders as the leader, 5th-round pick Kenneth Gainwell arriving as a receiving factor and Jordan Howard returning. We'll see exactly how Johnson fits in this summer.
The Lions are waiving RB Kerryon Johnson, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. This move doesn't come as a surprise after Detroit signed Jamaal Williams in free agency. We'd bet on Johnson finding a new team before long, with Atlanta the most obvious candidate. Johnson averaged 4.3 yards per carry and 8.3 yards per catch over 3 seasons in Detroit but averaged just 10.1 touches per game. He lost 14 games to injuries over his first 2 seasons before playing in every 2020 game -- and seeing his rushing workload crater (3.3 rushes per contest). We'll see where Johnson lands for 2021.
The Lions drafted RB Jermar Jefferson in Round 7. Jefferson broke out as a true freshman with 239 carries for 1,380 yards (5.8 YPC) and 12 TDs. He added 25 catches that year, although he totaled only 18 receptions over his final 2 seasons. Jefferson’s rushing production dropped in 2019, partly because of foot and ankle injuries. Last year he rebounded on the ground to post 133-858-7 (6.5 YPC) in 6 games. The tape shows a runner with plus vision, but there is some concern over his athletic profile. Jefferson posted a 7.38-second 3-cone (8th percentile), a 4.38-second short shuttle (28th percentile), a 31-inch vertical (10th percentile) and a 115-inch broad jump (25th percentile). In Detroit, he could be battling Kerryon Johnson for a 2021 roster spot. With D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams -- at least -- ahead of him, we wouldn't bother with Jefferson in dynasty rookie drafts.
RB Jamaal Williams has agreed to a 2-year deal with the Lions worth "up to" $7.5 million, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Williams saw regular usage in both the run and passing game with the Packers, averaging 125 carries and 30.5 receptions across 4 seasons. His contract terms don't suggest he'll threaten D'Andre Swift's expected lead role in the backfield. We'll see about Williams vs. Kerryon Johnson, though, under new HC Dan Campbell and his staff. Williams turns 26 in April.
Lions RB D’Andre Swift (illness) is inactive for today’s game against the Bears. He cleared the concussion protocol this week but missed the final 2 practices with an illness. We’ll see if he can make it back for Week 14. RBs Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson will share backfield duties again today.
Lions RB D'Andre Swift has been downgraded to doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bears. He cleared the concussion protocol during the week but has been dealing with an illness. So it looks like it'll be Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson leading Detroit's backfield again. With Swift out the past 2 weeks, Peterson has handled 22 carries and 1 target to Johnson's 17 carries and 9 targets. Neither guy is an exciting fantasy play vs. Chicago's 4th-ranked RB defense.
Lions interim HC Darrell Bevell said Friday that RB D'Andre Swift will "have a smaller, game-plan specific role" if he plays against the Bears this weekend. Swift was still in the concussion protocol and limited in practice on Wednesday -- then missed Thursday and Friday's practices with an illness. He also didn't practice much the previous 2 weeks. We don't know exactly how limited Swift will be if he ends up active, but this obviously makes him tough to trust in fantasy lineups. RBs Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson are seemingly in for bigger role on Sunday, although neither is a great fantasy play vs. Chicago's 4th-ranked RB defense.
Lions RB D'Andre Swift (concussion) is officially inactive for today's game against the Texans. RB Adrian Peterson is the favorite to lead Detroit in carries, but RB Kerryon Johnson will also be involved on the ground and should handle most of the passing-down work.
Lions RB D'Andre Swift (concussion) is "unlikely" to play against the Texans today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The rookie wasn't quite able to pass through the protocol but is trending toward a Week 13 return. Swift's absence again leaves Detroit's backfield to Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson. Last week, Peterson tallied 7 carries and 1 target to Johnson's 6 carries and 5 targets. We're expecting a similar workload split today. Check out the updated projections for the Lions backfield.
Lions RB D'Andre Swift (concussion) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game vs. the Texans. He put in limited practices on Tuesday and Wednesday but has more work to do to clear the concussion protocol. We'll see if he can get there before tomorrow's game. We'll get Swift's status by 11 am ET. If he remains out, it'll again be Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson in Detroit's backfield.
Lions RB D'Andre Swift put in a limited practice Wednesday, his 1st participation since suffering a concussion last week. That indicates he's not yet through the league protocol but is at least making progress. We'll see whether Swift can gain clearance ahead of Thursday's upside matchup with Houston. If he can't, then it'll be Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson splitting the backfield again.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Lions RBs Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson will split carries against the Panthers today. Peterson has played well ahead of Johnson all season, but Lions RBs coach Kyle Caskey said earlier this week that Johnson "will fill [D'Andre Swift's role] as much as possible." This situation might just evolve throughout today's game. We lean toward Peterson as the play in non-PPR leagues; Johnson in PPR.
