The Broncos have agreed to a 1-year deal with RB Melvin Gordon worth up to $5 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's obviously well short of what Denver paid Gordon the past 2 years, and the Broncos now sport a new coaching staff. But his return lowers the fantasy ceiling for 2nd-year RB Javonte Williams. We'll continue betting on the 22-year-old to lead Denver's backfield in fantasy points, but the decision by both the team and Gordon to make the agreement now clearly indicates a continued significant role for the veteran. We'll see how far Gordon's return pushes down the ADP for Williams, who has been occupying late Round 1 territory in early best-ball drafts. Gordon has slipped well into the double-digit rounds and could very well remain in that range over at least the next few days, while drafters figure out where he belongs. If he does, pounce.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that RB Melvin Gordon is "in discussions with the Ravens on a potential deal." Rapoport adds that Baltimore "still has a need at RB." That bit is interesting because it could either be Rapoport's quick-hand assessment of the situation (many of which can be lacking) -- or it could be a belief by the Ravens that he's been fed by a source. We're certainly not adjusting any fantasy outlooks until such a signing actually happens. But if Gordon does join the Ravens, it would obviously be bad news for J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. It would also seem to lower Gordon's ceiling vs. other potential landing spots -- though might be similar to Denver in that category. A Gordon signing could also signal a Baltimore plan to lean further back to the run than we might have expected, following a significant shift toward the pass with their 2021 offense.

It looks like RB Melvin Gordon will hit free agency, according Denver radio host and Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright. "There had been mutual interest in RB Melvin Gordon and possible Broncos return, but looks like that's not gonna happen," he tweeted Monday. Should a Gordon departure come to fruition in unrestricted free agency, the ceiling on 2nd-year RB Javonte Williams would rank right with the RBs currently going in Round 1 of fantasy football drafts. We'll see, of course, what else Denver chooses to do at the position this offseason. Mike Boone also remains on the depth chart after signing in free agency last spring.

Broncos GM George Paton said he’s had “really good discussions” with impending free agent RB Melvin Gordon. Paton added that he’d “like” to have Gordon back — no surprise given the veteran’s strong 2021. Gordon earned a top-10 rushing grade from Pro Football Focus and held up well on 231 touches, missing only 1 game. Denver’s currently flush with cap space, so the team has the means to bring Gordon back for year 3. Of course, such a move would hurt Javonte Williams, who’s currently being drafted as an RB1.

Broncos RBs Javonte Williams (knee) and Melvin Gordon (thumb, hip) are active for today’s game vs. the Chargers. Both guys were limited in practice all week but should play their usual roles today.

Broncos RBs Javonte Williams (knee) and Melvin Gordon (thumb, hip) are expected to play vs. the Chargers today, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Both guys were limited in practice all week but should be ready for their usual roles today.

The Broncos list RBs Javonte Williams (knee) and Melvin Gordon (thumb, hip) as questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Chargers. Both guys were limited in practice all week. They're not at 100% at this point of the season (who is?) but should be fine for Sunday.

Broncos RBs Melvin Gordon (thumb, hip) and Javonte Williams (knee) are active for today’s game vs. the Bengals. Gordon got in 3 limited practices this week; Williams was limited on Wednesday and Friday, sitting out on Thursday with some knee swelling. We never heard much concern for either guy, though, so we’re expecting the status quo in Denver’s backfield today.

Broncos RBs Melvin Gordon (thumb, hip) and Javonte Williams (knee) are expected to play vs. the Bengals today, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Unless we hear otherwise, we're expecting the near 50/50 split in Denver's backfield to continue.

Broncos RBs Melvin Gordon (thumb, hip) and Javonte Williams (knee) are listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Bengals. Gordon got in 3 limited practices this week; Williams was limited on Wednesday and Friday, sitting out on Thursday with some knee swelling. HC Vic Fangio said Friday that Williams is “fine.” We’re expecting the near-even 50/50 split in Denver’s backfield to continue this weekend.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon sprained a thumb in Sunday's win over the Lions, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Gordon was able to play through the issue yesterday and it "doesn’t figure to limit his playing time going forward," per Rapoport. We'll keep an eye on Gordon this week, but it sounds like we should expect Denver's committee backfield to continue in Sunday's game vs. the Bengals.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (hip) is active for today’s game vs. the Lions. He was limited in practice all week and listed as questionable, so it seems like he’s still not at 100%. We’ll see what kind of role he plays after RB Javonte Williams’ massive Week 13. The plus matchup at least keeps Gordon in play as a RB3 or flex.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (hip) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Lions. Both he and HC Vic Fangio expect Gordon to play. We’ll see what kind of roles he’s returning to after RB Javonte Williams’ massive Week 13. The plus matchup against Detroit keeps Gordon in play as a RB3 or flex.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (hip) remained limited in Thursday's practice. He's trending toward returning for this weekend's game vs. the Lions, but we'll get another update on his status tomorrow.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (hip) put in a limited practice on Wednesday. That puts him on track to return for this weekend's game vs. the Lions. RB Javonte Williams, of course, exploded with Gordon out last week. It's unclear exactly what that means for the backfield split going forward, but the matchup with Detroit's 29th-ranked RB defense makes Williams an easy Week 14 fantasy start. Gordon's viability will depend on what he does in practice the rest of the week.

The Broncos have downgraded RB Melvin Gordon to out. He was already doubtful with shoulder and hip injuries. This just locks Javonte Williams in as a solid-to-strong starter for Week 13.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon (hip) is listed as doubtful for Sunday night's game vs. the Chiefs. It's Javonte Williams time. The rookie has been splitting work with Gordon all season but should get feature-back volume this week. And he draws a Kansas City defense that Football Outsiders ranks 28th against the run. Williams is a legit RB1 in Week 13 fantasy lineups.

Broncos HC Vic Fangio called RB Melvin Gordon (hip) "50/50" for Sunday night's game vs. the Chiefs. Gordon played through this hip issue last weekend but missed practice on both Wednesday and Thursday. We'll get another update on his status tomorrow. Gordon's absence would make Javonte Williams a RB1.

Broncos RB Melvin Gordon hurt his hip on the first possession of Sunday's game vs. the Chargers and is questionable to return. We'll update his status when we know more.

Update: Gordon returned on Denver's 2nd possession.

Broncos OC Pat Shurmur is in COVID protocols and won't be available for Sunday's game against the Eagles, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. Shurmur is Denver's offensive play-caller, so it's less-than-ideal for QB Teddy Bridgewater and Denver's skill-position guys.
