Here is How to Evaluate Brendan Sorsby For Your Dynasty League

Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby plans to enter the NFL’s supplemental draft, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The NCAA ruled Sorsby ineligible for the college season because of gambling violations, including his admission that he bet on Indiana while redshirting there as a freshman, plus more evidence linking him to proxy betting and bets on other sports. A big year at Texas Tech could have made him a potential first-round pick in 2027, but now he plans to enter July’s supplemental draft.

        What They're Saying

Jeremy Fowler, ESPN: “Several execs I spoke with over the past few weeks agree that he's worth a second-round pick in the supplemental draft.”

        2026 Fantasy Football Impact

Sorsby almost declared for the 2026 NFL Draft after a strong year for Cincinnati: 2,800 passing yards, 27 TDs, 5 INTs, plus 580 rushing yards and 9 more TDs. At 6’3, 235 pounds, he has the size, mobility, and rushing upside to be a dual-threat QB in the vein of Daniel Jones. That profile is attractive for fantasy if he ever becomes a starter.

His arm also looks NFL-caliber, with strong zip when he steps into throws and the ability to make highlight plays to all areas of the field. He navigates the pocket well and can roll out when needed.

Sorsby’s biggest on-field issue is how he handles pressure. When defenses get any push up front, his footwork and mechanics break down, leading to errant passes and major mistakes. That showed up last year, when he struggled against the best defenses on his schedule after carving up the weaker ones.

Sorsby still has mental development ahead of him, because defenses that disguise coverages can bait him into bad decisions. He certainly could have become a first-round pick by cleaning up those negatives in 2026, but any improvement now has to happen at the NFL level.

Brendan Sorsby's ranks among the 10 QBs drafted this spring (all 2025 stats):

        • Completion rate: 10th
        • Adjusted completion rate: 10th
        • aDOT: 3rd
        • Yards per attempt: 4th
        • Adjusted yards per attempt: 3rd
        • Turnover worthy play rate: 1st
        • Big time throw rate: 3rd
        • PFF passing grade: 4th

I grade Sorsby similarly to Ty Simpson. Simpson showed higher-end flashes on film early in 2026, but Sorsby’s 34 games of experience show up and matter more than Simpson’s 15 college starts.

The off-field gambling adds another layer, though, and makes Sorsby much less attractive than a player like Simpson, who went 13th overall.

The NFL has been pretty strict with its own gambling policy, including suspending five players in 2023. Sorsby could face a suspension from the NFL to start his rookie season and any gambling in the future would likely sink what is left of his career.

Sorsby has been diagnosed with gambling addiction and is currently receiving treatment. That will likely be a major topic with NFL teams as they evaluate both his progress and the risk of him gambling again.

NFL teams will have to decide whether Sorsby is worth giving up a pick from a strong 2027 rookie class despite the off-field concerns. That could push him down the supplemental draft board.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN spoke to several executives who agreed that Sorsby is worth a second-round supplemental pick. That keeps him worth considering in fantasy leagues.

If a team pays that price, Sorsby gets a meaningful development runway. That is enough to buy the gamble in Superflex.

        Dynasty Impact

The first question in your dynasty league is how Sorsby will enter the player pool. Ask your commissioner now whether that means blind bidding, your league’s own supplemental draft, or Sorsby simply landing in the 2027 rookie draft.

Until we know exactly where Sorsby lands in the supplemental draft, here’s how to value him in each format. I’m assuming he goes in the second or third round.

In a 1-QB league, he isn’t worth more than a few blind-bid dollars, about 5% of your budget. And that’s only if you have room for another QB.

It isn’t worth spending a supplemental draft pick on that risk in a 1-QB league, either.

In Superflex, the calculation changes. With Sorsby valued just below Ty Simpson, he’s worth the risk of a 2027 second-round pick. QBs of his caliber will likely be gone by then, so that’s a worthwhile investment.

Don’t blow your entire FAAB budget on him, even in Superflex. In a shallow SF league, spending 50-60% to get Sorsby makes sense. In deeper leagues with fewer waiver options, 75% works.

Ultimately, Sorsby’s supplemental draft position will give us a better read on his value, but these are solid baselines if he enters your player pool immediately.
