The Buccaneers have ruled RB LeSean McCoy (ankle) out for Thursday night's game against the Bears. RB Leonard Fournette (ankle) is doubtful for the game. Those 2 absences make Ronald Jones an even stronger fantasy start. They also make Ke'Shawn Vaughn available as a deep option for desperate fantasy managers.

The Buccaneers are releasing RB Dare Ogunbowale. We know a cut or 2 was coming at this position after the Bucs signed LeSean McCoy and Leonard Fournette during training camp. Ogunbowale's departure leaves some 3rd-down work available and could leave Ke'Shawn Vaughn room on special teams. McCoy has been talked about as a 3rd-down option since arriving, but we'd bet on targets being spread among the top 3 backs.

The Buccaneers have agreed to a 1-year deal with RB Leonard Fournette, according to both Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport. The biggest question facing fantasy owners, of course, is what Fournette's arrival will mean for RB Ronald Jones' workload. We'll have to see about that. HC Bruce Arians has spent the summer talking up Jones, though. The Fournette signing seems to be the latest indication that Ke'Shawn Vaughn isn't ready for a significant role right away. It also might mean that LeSean McCoy won't make the team. Adding a former top-5 NFL Draft pick certainly has the potential to cut into Jones' work, but we'll continue treating him as the lead back here. How Fournette's arrival affects Jones' ADP will determine whether the 3rd-year back is a draft value.

Bucs RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn "has looked like a carbon copy of Peyton Barber so far," Pewter Report's Scott Reynolds writes. That's not a compliment. Reynolds adds that Vaughn is "not showing much burst or wiggle" and "doesn’t look special yet." The rookie missed some time on the COVID list and seemingly has a ton of ground to make up if he wants an early-season role. Ronald Jones remains the Bucs RB to target in fantasy drafts.

The Buccaneers have activated RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn off the COVID-19 list. That comes less than 2 weeks after Vaughn landed on the list and gives him most of August on the field. We'll see how LeSean McCoy fits into a seemingly now-full Bucs backfield picture.

Bucs HC Bruce Arians called Ronald Jones the "main guy" in his backfield. "He’ll carry the load," Arians added. He went on to say that Ke'Shawn Vaughn, LeSean McCoy and Dare Ogunbowale are "fighting for roles." After flopping as a rookie, Jones turned in a much better sophomore season. And we've heard nothing but positivity surrounding him this offseason. Even if he can capture two-thirds of this backfield work, he'll boast exciting fantasy upside in what should be a high-scoring Bucs offense. Jones continues to climb our RB rankings.

The Buccaneers have placed RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn on the new reserve/COVID-19 list. That means the rookie has either tested positive or been in close contact with someone who has and thus faces mandatory quarantine. The team is not allowed to specify which category fits Vaughn's situation. Starting camp inactive won't help his pursuit of Ronald Jones on the Bucs' RB depth chart. We'll see how soon Vaughn can get back onto the field.

The Bucs selected Vanderbilt RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Vaughn brings lead-back size at 5’10, 214 pounds and ran a 4.51-second 40 time at the Combine, giving him an above-average 103.5 Speed Score. He transferred from Illinois after the 2016 season and operated as Vandy’s starter the past 2 years. Vaughn averaged a gaudy 7.9 yards per carry on 157 totes in 2018 but sunk to 5.2 yards per carry on 198 attempts this past year. He still ranked among the top 30 draft-eligible backs in both yards after contact and missed tackles forced in 2019, though, and finished ahead of guys like D’Andre Swift and J.K. Dobbins in Pro Football Focus’ Elusive Rating. Vaughn is also capable in the passing game, totaling 41 catches for 440 yards (10.7 YPC) and 3 TDs over the past 2 seasons. Vaughn vs. Ronald Jones will be an interesting battle to watch this summer.
