Watson questionable for Week 16 | Shark Bites | Draft Sharks

Saints TE Ben Watson (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars after missing some practice time this week. His matchup makes him worth waiting for if you don't have a better option on your roster, but the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff means that you'll need to secure an insurance option from 1 of the late-afternoon or primetime games. QB Drew Brees' questionable status adds risk as well.

Recent Shark Bites

Patriots TE Ben Watson has been suspended 4 games for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Watson admitted in a Facebook post that he took a banned substance after he announced his retirement earlier this offseason. The Pats knew of the impending ban when they signed Watson, so it shouldn't impact his odds of making the team. But it makes him pretty much undraftable in fantasy drafts. Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Matt LaCosse figure to open the season atop New England's TE depth chart.

TE Ben Watson has inked a 1-year, $3 million deal with the Patriots. The 38-year-old has remained effective, posting a 74-825-6 line with the Saints in 2016, a 61-522-4 with the Ravens in 2017 and a 35-400-2 back in New Orleans last year. He spent his first 6 NFL seasons with the Patriots, including 3 under current OC Josh McDaniels. Watson will battle with talented but oft-injured Austin Seferian-Jenkins for targets this season. It's worth noting that ASJ's 1-year deal is for less than a million bucks. Consider Watson the early favorite.

Saints TE Ben Watson (appendicitis) is out for Sunday's game against the Rams. He's averaged just 2.2 targets per game over the last 5 while playing less than 50% of the offensive snaps, so it's not a major loss. Josh Hill should serve as New Orleans' lead TE this weekend, and TE Dan Arnold figures to be active after being a healthy scratch in the Divisional Round.

Saints TE Ben Watson "still looks like he's in the prime of his career," according to insider Joel Erickson. He's "made eye-popping, contested catches a normal occurrence in his return to the Saints," Erickson writes. Watson is 37 now but racked up 61 catches in Baltimore last season. And he has 3 years of experience in the Saints offense, including a 74-825-6 line back in 2015. There hasn't been much buzz on Watson, but he appears locked in as New Orleans' lead TE. And he's remained dirt cheap, with an ADP sitting in the 16th round.

The Saints have signed TE Ben Watson to a 1-year deal. The 37-year-old made an impressive return last season from a torn Achilles, hauling in 61 of 79 targets (77.2% catch rate). He averaged just 8.6 yards per catch, though, and doesn't offer much playmaking ability at this point. It's certainly worth noting that Watson has plenty of experience with HC Sean Payton and QB Drew Brees, spending 2013 to 2015 in New Orleans. His arrival could spell the end of TE Coby Fleener's time with the Saints. That'd leave the team with Watson and Josh Hill. We'll see if they add to the position in the draft, but whoever the Saints deploy as their lead pass-catching TE will have some fantasy appeal.
