The Browns are trading RB Carlos Hyde to Jacksonville in exchange for a mid-round draft pick, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. This doesn't bode well for RB Leonard Fournette's return from his hamstring trouble. Hyde joins T.J. Yeldon in the Jaguars backfield for now, although it's unclear if Hyde will be active for this weekend's game against the Texans. Meanwhile, Nick Chubb takes over as the primary ball-carrier in Cleveland. The rookie has flashed in limited chances, averaging 10.8 yards on 16 carries. He immediately jumps into the RB2 mix.
UPDATE: The Browns are receiving a 5th-round pick.
The Chiefs have traded RB Carlos Hyde to the Texans in exchange for OT Martinas Rankins, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Hyde fell behind Darwin Thompson and Darrell Williams on Kansas City's depth chart and would have been cut if Houston didn't make this deal. Hyde has looked like a replacement-level RB for a few years now, averaging 3.7 yards per carry across 2017 and 2018 and 3.4 this preseason. He joins Duke Johnson in the Texans backfield and could handle some early-down work. But we fully expect Johnson to easily lead the way in touches.
The Chiefs signed RB Carlos Hyde to a 1-year, $2.8 million deal. He was unemployed for just about 24 hours after getting dumped by the Jaguars. Hyde is still just 28 but has struggled to 3.9 and 3.3 yards per carry over the past 2 seasons. He ranked 33rd last year among 47 qualifying RBs in Pro Football Focus' Elusive Rating, which measures a runner's impact beyond the blocking he receivers. Hyde joins a Chiefs backfield with Damien Williams, who inked a 2-year, $5.1 million deal in December. Both Hyde and Williams got $1.6 million guaranteed. They'll duke it out for carries this summer.
The Jaguars have released RB Carlos Hyde. They were reportedly looking to get something back for him in a trade, but that was always a long shot with Hyde due $4.7 million in 2019. After giving up a 5th-round pick for him at last year's trade deadline, Jacksonville got just 3.3 yards per carry on 58 attempts out of Hyde. Hyde has flashed at times but is now averaging 4.0 yards per carry for his career, doesn't offer much in the passing game and turns 29 in September. We'll see where he lands. The Jags, meanwhile, will be in the market for RB depth behind Leonard Fournette. T.J. Yeldon hits free agency later this month.
Jaguars RB Carlos Hyde is inactive for today's game against the Redskins. Expect a heavy dose of RB Leonard Fournette, with RB T.J. Yeldon in his usual change-of-pace role.
Jaguars RB Carlos Hyde is inactive for today’s game against the Texans. He didn’t have quite enough time to get settled in after the trade to Jacksonville Friday. T.J. Yeldon will serve as the Jags’ lead back, with Jamaal Charles as the #2.
