Carr remained limited in practice all week after an ugly showing in last week's loss to the Bucs. Carr is "in a better place health-wise than last week," per Rapoport. But we'd want to see him turn in a solid outing before trusting him in any fantasy lineups.

Saints WR Rashid Shaheed returned to individual drills in Thursday's practice, according to insider Nick Underhill. Shaheed had been sidelined since August 5 but is seemingly on track to be available for the season opener. He'll start the year as New Orleans' No. 3 WR behind Chris Olave and Michael Thomas.

The second-year undrafted free agent is currently rehabbing a groin injury, but he should be fine for Week 1. “From the time we got him last year and he got healthy enough to go through practice, we started to see some signs, and each day I've seen him continue to get better,” HC Dennis Allen said. “He's always had great speed, and he's always had the ability to transition at the top of the route, but I think you're seeing some technique things here where he's kind of understanding how to run a route and how to get himself open.” Shaheed should at least supply a few spike weeks for best ball drafters.

We'll see about the severity of each issue, but it seems particularly noteworthy for Shaheed. He's not only expected to run ahead of Smith on the depth chart, but Shaheed also missed June minicamp with what was deemed a minor groin injury. Even if this instance also proves minor, we haven't been excited about Shaheed's 2023 fantasy football outlook. He'll need an injury to Chris Olave or Michael Thomas to pull him up our WR rankings.

He now checks in at 6’0, 185 pounds. “It was definitely an emphasis, being a little guy in this league,” he said. “I take a lot of hits. That's why I wanted to add weight.” The 2022 UDFA rehabbed a knee injury over the summer, but he eventually flashed his speed with scores of 44, 53, and 68 yards. “I do think he's a lot more confident in what he's doing,” HC Dennis Allen said. “Obviously, you can see his speed, feel the speed out on the field. We've been able to hit a few explosive plays throughout these last four days. So, I think he's in a good spot right now.” Shaheed is mostly a best ball asset, but that could change if Michael Thomas continues to miss games.

QB Derek Carr and the Saints are working out a contract that could be done as soon as Monday afternoon, according to multiple reports. It's not a surprising turn for Carr, who had "lengthy" visit to New Orleans a month ago. His arrival will be good news for Saints second-year WR Chris Olave, who finished his rookie season 10th in yards per route run among all WRs with 30+ targets. WR Rashid Shaheed was among the nine players ahead of him (on far fewer targets), so that pair presents some big-play upside for Carr's stat line. That said, we can't upgrade the QB for leaving Davante Adams and Darren Waller. So the best hopes for Carr's ADP and fantasy football outlook are: 1) The Saints add more talent on offense; and 2) fantasy drafters don't boost him much from his current QB20 position. We'll see what else a cap-strapped New Orleans roster can add. And we'll see who teams such as the Jets and Panthers turn to at QB (after also courting Carr). WR Michael Thomas remains under contract with New Orleans as well. But he looks like a cut candidate that could help with the cap issues. Don't assume too strongly for now that he opens the year with the Saints.

Update: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Carr agreed to a four-year, $150 million deal, with $100 million in "total guarantees."

Shaheed's penchant for making big plays paid off once again as he's now logged 70+ receiving yards in 3 of the last 4 games. Fantasy managers playing into Week 18 will see this bunch of pass-catchers take on a Panthers defense that ranks as the 3rd-best matchup in adjusted fantasy points allowed to WRs and just got torched by QB Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in Week 17.

Saints TE/QB/ninja Taysom Hill connected with WR Rashid Shaheed for a 68-yard TD in Sunday's win over the Falcons. It was 1 of 2 pass attempts for Hill, who also completed a 12-yarder to TE Juwan Johnson. Hill added 30 rushing yards on 7 carries, tallying 10.2 PPR points for the game. He'll remain a risk-reward play at TE over the final weeks of the fantasy football playoffs.
