The Buccaneers have reached a deal with free-agent LB Daryl Smith. The former Raven is expected to start on the strong side, according to Pewter Report. Don't bet on significant IDP value next to MLB Kwon Alexander and weak-side LB Lavonte David, both of whom are 3-down players.
The Ravens on Thursday released LB Daryl Smith, though that doesn't necessarily mean he's done in Baltimore. “While we are releasing Daryl, we are not closing the door on the possibility of him returning to the Ravens,” GM Ozzie Newsome said in a statement released by the team. “He deserves an opportunity to see his market value at this time." If Smith doesn't return to the Ravens, Arthur Brown, Zachary Orr and Albert McClellan look like the potential in-house replacements. Brown has disappointed since arriving as a 2nd-round pick after a productive college career. We'll see what happens in this situation that has delivered strong IDP value through the past 3 seasons. Heading into his age-34 season, though, Smith might not be a good bet for fantasy value going forward.
Ravens LB Daryl Smith has signed a 4-year $16.1 million deal to stay in Baltimore. We're doubting the 32-year-old will play out the whole term, but it's nice to see him stick in the place where he produced his best fantasy season to date. Smith might have trouble matching last year's numbers, but we'll certainly expect more good things when we factor him into our 2014 IDP rankings.
