Eagles RB Ryan Mathews posted his largest rushing-yardage total of the season Sunday against a Ravens defense that Football Outsiders had rated best in the league against the run. Mathews carried 20 times for 128 yards and 1 TD, adding 1 reception for 5 yards on 1 target. It was just Mathews' 2nd 100-yard game of the season, but his 3rd consecutive healthy game with 15+ carries. That makes him at least a fantasy RB2 for Thursday night's home clash with the Giants.

Recent Shark Bites

Eagles RB Ryan Mathews gained clearance from doctors Tuesday to return to the field, according to multiple reports. He had been out with a neck injury. General speculation is that the team will now release the veteran RB. Philly would have had to pay out an injury settlement if it wanted to dump Mathews before he gained medical clearance. We'll see if Mathews gets loose before projecting any further fantasy impact. Staying with the Eagles, meanwhile, would return him to a crowded backfield that lacks top-level performers.

Update: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Eagles have told Mathews he's been released.

Eagles RB Ryan Mathews has been diagnosed with a herniated disc and "will miss significant time," HC Doug Pederson said Friday. Mathews will finish the 2016 campaign with 661 yards and 8 TDs on 155 carries -- and another 3 games missed due to injury. We'll see if Philly brings him back at a $4 million salary next year. Darren Sproles and Byron Marshall will handle backfield duties for the Eagles in the season finale against the Cowboys.

Eagles RB Ryan Mathews suffered a stinger in the 4th quarter of Thursday night's win over the Giants. He mustered just 62 scoreless yards on 19 touches before exiting. We'll track Mathews' status this coming week. If he can't play in the finale vs. Dallas, Philly would be down to RBs Darren Sproles and Byron Marshall.

Eagles RB Ryan Mathews carried 15 times for 60 yards in Sunday's loss to Washington. Mathews returned after sitting out the previous 2 games with a knee sprain. The 15 carries marked his 3rd-largest tally of the season and Mathews' 2nd straight healthy game with 15+ rushing attempts. That makes him a better volume bet if healthy over the next 3 weeks. Unfortunately, a Week 15 matchup with Baltimore doesn't bode well for Mathews' rushing upside. Rookie Wendell Smallwood carried just 3 times for 3 yards. Mathews drew the only pass target between them, which fell incomplete.

Eagles RB Ryan Mathews (knee) is active for today’s game against the Redskins. He put in 3 full practices this week, so the knee shouldn’t be an issue. But ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this morning that Wendell Smallwood is expected to operate as Philly's lead ball-carrier. Mathews is no better than a TD-dependent RB3.
