Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury says RB Eno Benjamin has improved in some key ways over his rookie year. "I can't tell you how far [Eno] has come from last training camp to now, the way he is approaching the game, study habits, in the classroom," the coach told Darren Urban of the team website. "We all know he is dynamic when the ball is in his hands, but he is starting to do those other things in pass protection and on special teams we have been waiting to see." Those aspects will be key to Benjamin making the roster. He did so last year but spent all 16 games inactive. Making this year's roster wouldn't necessarily make Benjamin fantasy relevant, but it might put him a James Conner (or Chase Edmonds) injury away from being worth a waiver pickup.
"It wouldn't surprise me if Eno Benjamin wins the No. 2 RB role for the Cardinals." That's a recent tweet from Kyle Odegard, who finished 8 years of working for the team website last summer. He goes on, "I've heard a lot of good things about his progress." That aligns with Benjamin praise from HC Kliff Kingsbury earlier this month. Benjamin sits 70th among RBs in Underdog ADP right now, and 80th in FFPC best-ball drafting, in the wake of Arizona adding RB Darrel Williams. But it's worth remembering that Williams signed a 1-year deal for just less than $1.2 million, far from a guarantee that he'll serve as #2 to James Conner. Benjamin is at least worth a look late in best-ball drafts. We'll see how this competition plays out in training camp.
Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury singled out RB Eno Benjamin for his impressive offseason. “Eno Benjamin has been tremendous,” Kingsbury said. "... He’s out there and looks like he could be a starting running back." We don't expect Benjamin to push RB James Conner for the lead job, but it sounds like he's squarely in the mix for the #2 RB spot. Benjamin is competing for that job with Darrel Williams and 6th-round rookie Keaontay Ingram.
We passed along a positive review recently of RB Eno Benjamin's work in training camp, including praise from his head coach. Arizona's initial "unofficial" depth chart, however, lists the 2nd-year back 5th behind Chase Edmonds, James Conner, Jonathan Ward and D.J. Foster. These depth charts, of course, can often prove meaningless, especially this early in the roster-whittling process. But we wouldn't go targeting Benjamin in drafts just yet.
The Cardinals selected Arizona State RB Eno Benjamin in the 7th round of the 2020 NFL Draft. We’re surprised he lasted this long. Benjamin is a fun watch; a Tazmanian Devil-style runner who darts and spins his way through traffic. Some scouts think he does too much dancing, though, which might explain his underwhelming 5.0 career yards per carry. Benjamin ranked a mediocre 15th among 21 of this year’s top RB prospects in Pro Football Focus’ 2019 Elusive Rating and 14th in the site’s rushing grades. And although he racked up 553 carries over the past 2 years, the 5’9, 207-pounder is likely too small to handle big workloads as a pro. On the plus side, Benjamin tested as a 72nd percentile athlete at the Combine and leads this RB class in career receptions (82), career receptions per game (2.4) and 2019 market share of receptions (18.0%). He should compete with Chase Edmonds for change-of-pace duties behind Kenyan Drake in Arizona.
