The Rams have released MLB James Laurinaitis and DE Chris Long. Laurinaitis spent the past 7 years starting every game for St. Louis but isn't a special talent at this point -- at least not enough to be worth the $5.25 million in space his ouster cleared under the salary cap. Long will turn 31 in March and started just 11 games over the past 2 seasons because of injuries. He also totaled only 4 sacks over that stretch. The Rams' top 2 backups at DE -- William Hayes and Eugene Sims -- will hit free agency in March, so we'll see what the team does at that position. According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, St. Louis plans to move OLB Alec Ogletree to the middle and try to re-sign S/LB Mark Barron to continue playing the weak-side LB spot that he took over when Ogletree got hurt last season.
The Rams have ruled LB Micah Kiser (knee) out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. They activated him off IR earlier this week, but Kiser clearly isn't yet ready to play. He missed the entire week of practice. That keeps Troy Reeder as your top IDP option among Rams LBs. OLB Leonard Floyd is questionable for the game after sustaining an abdominal injury during the week. He missed Friday's practice after not being listed the previous 2 days. We'll check his status Sunday afternoon.
Rams LB Micah Kiser (groin) is inactive for today's game against Washington. He leaves no safe LB option available for IDP owners. Kenny Young should be the best bet for playing time behind him, as the other regular starter. But Rams coaches may elect to keep him at his normal limited playing time. Troy Reeder looks like the best bet to join the lineup. CB Troy Hill (ankle) is active after hitting the day questionable.
The Rams have ruled CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Fellow outside starting CB Troy Hill (thumb) is doubtful after missing last week following surgery on a fractured thumb. That will leave L.A. without both starting outside corners, which obviously helps the matchup for Kyler Murray and his WRs. Unfortunately for Murray, the rookie QB is dealing with his own hamstring injury that has him questionable. The Arizona passing game still looks risky for fantasy.
The Rams lost CB Marcus Peters and CB Aqib Talib to injuries in Sunday's win over the Chargers. We'll see about the status of each starter this week, but a quick turnaround to play the Vikings on Thursday night won't help them.
Update: Peters is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a calf strain, according to Ian Rapoport. Talib is having surgery on a high left ankle sprain.
Rams LB Mark Barron (knee) is active for today's game against the Jaguars. He missed the 1st 2 days of practice but returned for a limited workout Friday. Barron didn't miss any snaps last week, though, and is fine to keep in IDP lineups. DB Lamarcus Joyner (hamstring) is inactive for the 3rd straight game, though, despite returning to limited practices every day this week.
