Shark Bites

Bengals WR Brandon LaFell is back at practice less than a week after tearing a ligament in his hand. He's expected to play in Cincinnati's 3rd preseason game. Opting against surgery, LaFell will attempt to play through the injury. We'll see how it impacts a guy who's struggled with drops even when at 100%. Insider Paul Dehner believes LaFell will open the season as the Bengals' #2 WR before giving way to rookie Tyler Boyd "somewhere in the Week 6-8 range." We'd rather take a shot on Boyd late in fantasy drafts, but neither guy will be a starting fantasy option early on this season.

Recent Shark Bites

The Bengals have released WR Brandon LaFell. Cincinnati's #2 WR the past 2 seasons, LaFell was being pushed down the depth chart by the team's younger receivers, namely John Ross. LaFell's agent admitted that he'd be "lobbying" for his client's release. We'll see where LaFell lands, but he's unlikely to be a 2018 fantasy factor. Meanwhile, the door is open for a breakout season for Ross.

Bengals WR Brandon LaFell (knee) is active for today’s game against the Broncos. The knee shouldn’t be a concern, but Denver’s strong secondary makes him a low-end WR4 for Week 11.

Bengals WR Brandon LaFell (knee) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Broncos. He put in a full practice on Friday and should play. LaFell is coming off a big game vs. Tennessee but isn’t a recommended fantasy starter vs. Denver’s talented secondary.

The Bengals and WR Brandon LaFell have agreed to a new deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 30-year-old was a steady presence for Cincinnati last year, hauling in 64 balls for 862 yards and a team-high 6 TDs. He ranked 34th among WRs in PPR points and 33rd in non-PPR. LaFell certainly benefitted, though, from WR A.J. Green and TE Tyler Eifert missing a combined 14 games. If those guys stay healthier in 2017, LaFell's numbers figure to take a hit.

Bengals WR Brandon LaFell has a torn ligament in his hand, according to insider Mike Garafolo. Surgery is reportedly still on the table, but LaFell could also opt to rehab the injury and play through it. HC Marvin Lewis, meanwhile, still believes LaFell could be ready by Week 1. Cincinnati isn't exactly forthcoming when it comes to injuries, so fantasy owners shouldn't be banking on that. LaFell isn't worth rostering in standard leagues. Rookie Tyler Boyd, meanwhile, becomes the odds-on favorite to finish 2nd among Bengals WRs in targets. He could even be #2 on the entire team if TE Tyler Eifert's ankle injury costs him significant regular-season time. Boyd's stock is on the rise.
