Sunday's opener between the Bucs and Dolphins is in limbo as Hurricane Irma bears down on Florida. The league held a conference call this morning to discuss the situation, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, but no decision was made. The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud hears that the Bucs are expecting the game to be moved to Week 11, when both teams currently have a bye week. The other option is to move the game elsewhere. We're expecting to have clarity on the situation within the next 24 hours.
CBS' Josina Anderson reports that Saints QB Jameis Winston is "finalizing" a deal to stay with the Saints. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that it's a one-year agreement worth "up to" $8 million. Rapoport adds that Winston faced "no starting opportunities," which would explain the QB settling for a backup spot behind QB Derek Carr. There would be fantasy upside to Winston if Carr goes down. But it's bad news that the 29-year-old couldn't get a better shot anywhere else just a year after opening 2022 as the New Orleans starter. This comes at the same time as the Buccaneers are rumored to be interested in Baker Mayfield and Jacoby Brissett -- just to add some context. Don't expect big things from Winston going forward.
Saints HC Dennis Allen said Wednesday that the team will wait until game time Thursday night to name the starting QB against the Cardinals. Both Jameis Winston (back, ankle) and Andy Dalton (back) have been limited in practice this week.
Saints QBs Jameis Winston (back, ankle) and Andy Dalton (back) were limited in Tuesday's practice. It remains unclear who will start vs. the Cardinals on Thursday night. We'll get New Orleans' final injury report tomorrow.
The Saints listed QB Jameis Winston (back, ankle) and QB Andy Dalton (back) as limited participants in Monday's estimated injury report. Dalton sustained his injury in Sunday's loss to the Bengals. The report was "estimated" because New Orleans ran no actual practice Monday. The team will face Arizona on Thursday night.
Saints HC Dennis Allen declined to name a starting QB for Thursday night's game vs. the Cardinals. "Let's get in the study on that and we'll see where he's at and then we'll go from there," Allen said after the loss to Cincinnati. QB Andy Dalton completed just 17 of 32 passes (53%) for 162 yards (5.1 YPA) and 1 TD against the Bengals. But Allen said that QB Jameis Winston (back, ankle) still isn't at 100%. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but neither guy will be more than a lower-end QB2 for Week 7.
