Shark Bites

Bills QB Josh Allen has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Jets. The team announced that Matt Barkley will start in his place. Barkley gets the nod over Nate Peterman, who’s tossed 7 picks — vs. 1 TD — on just 49 attempts. Barkley was signed on October 31st and doesn’t project as much of an upgrade. The Jets D/ST remains an elite option.

Bills beat writer Jay Skurski has “concern” over the team’s O-line situation. “I hate to say it, but [Josh] Allen’s ability to be healthy and play 17 games might be at stake here,” Skurski admits. Buffalo’s projected starters along the O-line have yet to practice together due to injuries (Rodger Saffold, Mitch Morse, Ryan Bates and Spencer Brown) and an absence for personal reasons (Dion Dawkins). We’re not adjusting projections, as this unit should all be together come Week 1. But that matchup — on the road against Aaron Donald and the Rams — might lead to a rocky start.

Bills QB Josh Allen gave an update on the offense under new OC Ken Dorsey. “It doesn’t feel like we’ve missed a step,” Allen said. “Obviously, it’s a different voice in the headset, a different mind, calling the plays. The verbiage is still the same. The protections are still the same. We’ve switched up a couple things here and there with concepts and thought processes, but we’re able to call the same play and understand our players know this play like the back of their hand and it’s just our job to go out there and execute.” Continuity was always the biggest benefit of promoting Dorsey, and it sounds like that’s bearing out. Allen is rightfully coming off the board 1st among QBs in early fantasy drafts.

Bills beat writer Jay Skurski believes there should be “minimal growing pains” in year 1 with OC Ken Dorsey. The former college football star just served as Buffalo’s QB coach/pass game coordinator, so there’s desirable continuity. Dorsey, who’s never called plays at any level, is taking over for new Giants HC Brian Daboll. Skurski mentions the possibility of using more 2-TE sets and throwing to RBs more frequently — obvious dot-connecting following the arrivals of O.J. Howard and rookie James Cook. Allen remains an elite QB1.

The Bills have promoted QBs coach Ken Dorsey to OC. The Giants reportedly made a run to reunite Dorsey with new HC Brian Daboll, but Dorsey will instead stay with QB Josh Allen in Buffalo. Dorsey has been with the Bills since 2019. He has no OC experience at any level -- but at least there will be some continuity with the Bills offense.

Bills QB Josh Allen (foot) was limited in practice all week but isn’t listed on the final injury report. He’ll play vs. the Panthers on Sunday. That’s a negative matchup, and Allen won’t be at 100%. But he still sits comfortably inside our top 10 QBs for Week 15.
