Bears RB David Montgomery is headed for a game-time decision for tonight's game against the Rams, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Montgomery missed practice Thursday with his ankle sprain before returning to a limited Friday workout. The late kick obviously makes him risky to wait on for fantasy football lineups. If you need to wait for Montgomery, then check for Rams, Chiefs or Chargers options on the waiver wire as insurance. If Montgomery doesn't play, Tarik Cohen could be in for a big volume boost.

Recent Shark Bites

Bears GM Ryan Pace said from the Combine on Tuesday that RB David Montgomery "can be the team’s featured running back and carry a heavier load." It's typical February fodder that shouldn't move the needle much. But it's at least noteworthy that Chicago seems committed to Montgomery despite his disappointing 3.7 yards per carry as a rookie. He notably averaged 17.1 carries over his final 10 games after averaging just 11.8 across the first 6.

Bears RB David Montgomery (ankle) is active for tonight’s game against the Rams. He’s a risky fantasy play after rolling his ankle in practice on Wednesday.

Bears RB David Montgomery (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday night’s game against the Rams. He “lightly rolled” his ankle on Wednesday, per HC Matt Nagy, didn’t practice on Thursday and was limited on Friday. The late kickoff puts fantasy owners in a tough spot here. Hopefully we get an update on Montgomery Sunday morning. His absence would leave Chicago’s backfield to Tarik Cohen and Ryan Nall.

Bears RB David Montgomery was held out of Thursday's practice with an ankle injury. HC Matt Nagy said his rookie "lightly rolled" the ankle in Wednesday's practice. That doesn't sound like a serious injury, but we can't consider Montgomery a lock for Sunday night's game against the Rams. Check back tomorrow for another update on his status. Montgomery's absence would leave Chicago's backfield to Tarik Cohen and Ryan Nall.

Bears RB David Montgomery is expected to get "a lot of carries" against the Chargers today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The rookie got the rock just twice in last week's loss to the Saints, and it sounds like HC Matt Nagy wants to rectify that. Montgomery averaged 15.8 carries over the previous 4 games, so it's not like we haven't seen Chicago feature him. There's upside here vs. the Chargers' 21st-ranked RB defense.
