Bills S Aaron Williams has signed a 4-year $26 million extension, which makes him the league's 8th highest paid safety in annual salary. Williams enjoyed a strong 2013 -- when healthy (he missed 2 games) -- after converting from CB. The deal clearly locks in Williams as a starter going forward and likely doesn't leave much money to chase after 2013 franchise player S Jairus Byrd. We've all expected, of course, that Byrd and the Bills would part ways this offseason anyway.
Bills S Aaron Williams will start Sunday at Tennessee for the 1st time since his scary neck injury in the Week 2 loss to New England. “Aaron’s one of the top safeties in the league when he’s healthy,” Bills coach Rex Ryan told The Buffalo News on Thursday. “So obviously that’s a big loss when he’s not in there and it should really help getting him back.” Ryan might be overstating Williams' impact a bit, but his return can certainly only help the Bills -- as long as he's back to full strength. Williams isn't much of an IDP target this week, though.
Bills S Aaron Williams left the field on a stretcher in the back of an ambulance Sunday against the Patriots. It appeared he suffered a neck injury while attempting to tackle Patriots WR Julian Edelman on a 3rd-quarter catch-and-run TD. We'll see how serious this injury turns out to be. For fantasy purposes, Williams' absence wouldn't change the outlook for the Buffalo D.
Bills S Aaron Williams (neck) is active today against the Jets. He's a decent play against erratic Jets QB Geno Smith but has lost some playing time in recent weeks. That adds some risk to Williams' fantasy outlook and makes him no more than a lower-level DB2.
The Bills have ruled out S Aaron Williams (ribs) for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. S Jim Leonhard is expected to start in his place but doesn't carry the same IDP appeal.
Bills S Aaron Williams (ribs) has missed the 1st 2 days of practice this week. It obviously makes sense for the team to limit hits and other activity that Williams' injured ribs need to withstand during the week. But we'd like a good indication that he can last through a full game before slotting him into Week 16 fantasy football lineups. We've slid Williams down the DB rankings a bit and would try to find a safer option for your IDP squad this week.
