Shark Bites

Tajae Sharpe and Rishard Matthews emerged as the Titans' top 2 WRs in spring practices, according to insider Terry McCormick. Sharpe is a 5th-round rookie but generated buzz from coaches and media throughout OTAs. Matthews never carved out a significant role in Miami but was efficient with the targets he got. Tennessee's WR depth chart remains fluid, though, with Kendall Wright and Dorial Green-Beckham still squarely in the mix. DGB retains the highest upside of the group.

Recent Shark Bites

The Saints on Thursday signed WR Rishard Matthews. The former Dolphin, Titan and Jet tallied 65 and 53 receptions in his final 2 full seasons with Tennessee. But he disappeared while splitting last year between the Titans and Jets, following summer knee surgery. Matthews is a fine shot for the Saints to take. His signing, though, could be a hedge against Cameron Meredith's health and/or slow development by Tre'Quan Smith. We'll see how the corps sorts out this summer. It's also worth noting that among last year's Saints, only Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara topped 35 receptions. TE Ben Watson ranked 3rd at 35.

The Jets have signed WR Rishard Matthews, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Matthews had a falling-out with the Titans but tallied 1,740 yards and 13 scores across 2016 and 2017. It's a nice addition for the WR-needy Jets, but Matthews has a ways to go before he's a fantasy option again. He has a brand new offense to learn, and he's joining a team that ranks in the bottom half of the league in pass attempts, yards and TDs. He's only worth adding in the deepest of fantasy leagues.

According to multiple reports, Titans WR Rishard Matthews has asked the team to release him because of a lack of targets. That comes just weeks after the veteran receiver signed an extension with the team following his return from a knee injury. We'll see how quickly his wish is granted and where Matthews winds up. His departure could eventually help Taywan Taylor's outlook, though Tennessee doesn't look ready to support the fantasy value of any WR besides Corey Davis right now.

UPDATE: Matthews has been released.

Titans WR Rishard Matthews (knee) suggested that he expects to be limited in Sunday's opener against the Dolphins. "I think I am as good as I am going to be right now," he said. "I’m ready to go in there and contribute wherever they need me to." Matthews had early-August surgery to repair his meniscus and was just activated off the PUP list on August 26. So it's no surprise that he won't be a full-go this weekend. Matthews shouldn't be in Week 1 fantasy lineups.

Titans WR Rishard Matthews (knee) isn't listed on the team's Week 1 injury report. It's a bit surprising that he's already a full-go after early-August surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Matthews was just activated from the PUP list 10 days ago. We'd shy away from using him in Week 1 fantasy lineups, but he could quickly emerge as a WR3 option.
