Niners HC Kyle Shanahan said Friday that QB Jimmy Garoppolo will not play in any preseason games, according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. Garoppolo and LB Kwon Alexander will sit out the exhibitions as they work back from ACL tears that ended 2018 early for each player. This news isn't a big deal. Each player likely would have played less than a full game's worth of snaps anyway. But it would have been nice for fantasy owners to see Garoppolo in some game action before the regular season. Still, he's a solid draft value low in QB2 territory.
49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) expects to be a full-go for the start of training camp. “The rehab process has gone really well. Knock on wood. We haven’t had any setbacks," he said of his recovery from last September's torn ACL. "OTAs went about as well as I could have hoped for and now for training camp hopefully we’ll be full go with team drills and all that stuff. We’re moving in the right direction. We’ve just got to keep going day by day and keep stacking them together." Garoppolo was a limited participant in OTAs and, barring a setback, should be 100% for Week 1. He's going much later in drafts this summer than last, with an ADP currently sitting in Round 12. He's a fine value at that price.
49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo has taken part in individual and 7-on-7 drills in OTAs this week but been held out of full-team work. HC Kyle Shanahan said Garoppolo won't be fully cleared from last September's torn ACL until training camp. Garoppolo seems happy with his progress, though, noting that he's lifting more and no longer experience swelling in that surgically repaired knee. He'll be over 11 months removed from the injury when the 2019 season kicks off.
An MRI on 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo's left knee revealed a torn ACL. His 2018 campaign is over. If this is a clean ACL tear with no other ligament damage, Garoppolo has a good chance to be ready for the start of the 2019 season a little over 11 months from now. QB C.J. Beathard takes over for the rest of this year. He completed 55.3% of his passes and averaged 6.3 yards per attempt in 5 starts late last season. The 'Niners averaged just 14.8 points in those games. Garoppolo's absence will be felt by everyone in this offense.
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said in the post-game press conference that the team "fears" a torn ACL for Jimmy Garoppolo. That'd be a season-ending injury for the $137 million QB. Garoppolo will undergo additional tests to confirm the initial diagnosis, and we should get another update tomorrow. The downgrade to backup QB C.J. Beathard is obviously significant, so this is a big blow to all of San Francisco's skill-position guys.
49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo exited with a left knee injury in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game against the Chiefs. He was carted back to the locker room and "visibly upset," according to insider Matt Maiocco. We'll update Garoppolo's status as soon as we know more. QB C.J. Beathard has entered the game for San Francisco.
