Christian Watson Shows Week 4 Was a Fluke
Packers WR Christian Watson rebounded from a down Week 4 to drop a huge 6-143-1 line on the Bears. He’s now scored in six of his past seven games dating back to last season.
Packers WR Christian Watson rebounded from a down Week 4 to drop a huge 6-143-1 line on the Bears. He’s now scored in six of his past seven games dating back to last season.
Bears TE Colston Loveland disappeared again in Week 5, snagging only 2 of 5 targets for 19 yards. Just don’t put all of the blame on Loveland, as QBs Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum combined for 195 yards, 0 TDs, and 4 turnovers in the blowout loss to Green Bay.
Texans HC DeMeco Ryans called RB David Montgomery "week to week" with the groin injury that knocked him out of Sunday's win over the Titans. Montgomery is very likely to miss Week 6, and Houston's Week 8 bye might also have him more likely than not to miss Week 7. RB Woody Marks stepped into a workhorse role against Tennessee, carrying 15 times for 62 yards and catching all 4 of his targets for 23 yards. We expect the Texans to elevate RB Jawhar Jordan from the practice squad, but Marks figures to handle more of the backfield work against the Jaguars this weekend. That's a brutal matchup, but volume will put Marks in play as a RB2/3 in fantasy lineups.
Raiders TE Brock Bowers overcame a shaky performance from the Vegas offense to post 8 catches, 110 yards, and 1 score against New England. Bowers' PPR point totals have now gone 22.6, 17.6, and 21.0 since returning from a meniscus procedure.
Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty rushed 10 times for only 27 yards in Sunday’s loss at New England. Dating back to last season, Jeanty has now gone seven straight games without a rushing score.
Patriots QB Drake Maye went off for 374 yards and 4 TDs in Sunday's blowout win over the Raiders. He's the QB1 for Week 5 entering the Monday nighter.
Eagles RB Will Shipley could miss "multiple weeks" after suffering a partial tear of his plantar fascia during Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Philadelphia is now dealing with injuries to its top 3 RBs. Saquon Barkley is working back from a hamstring injury and is uncertain for Week 6. Tank Bigsby is out at least 3 more games with his core injury. Shipley's absence left Dameon Pierce in an every-down role against Jacksonville. Carson Steele was active but didn't play a single offensive snap. Jaydon Blue remains on the Eagles' practice squad. We'll see if Barkley can make it back for Sunday's game vs. the Panthers, but we could be looking at a heavy workload for Pierce.
Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs was simply rude to the host Cardinals in Sunday's win. He racked up 151 yards and 2 TDs on 25 carries, with another 56 yards on 5 catches among 6 targets. He ranked second on the team in targets and catches (tied) while checking in third in receiving yards. Gibbs' 100.8 rushing yards per game sit 17.7 higher than his previous peak, and his 48.6 receiving yards per game mark a jump of 12.4 from last year's high. That rate has increased each of the past three years. But should we be concerned about all the hits he's taking?
Bengals RB Chase Brown entered Week 5 with a commanding 76% to 17% edge over Samaje Perine in carry share. But that gap disappeared Sunday against Miami. Perine handled 50% of the carries to Brown's 46% while also outperforming him in yards per carry (4.9 to 3.0), rush yards over expected per attempt (+0.6 to -1.2), and yards after contact per attempt (3.9 to 2.7).
Dolphins RB Ollie Gordon tallied 88 yards and 1 score in Sunday’s 7-point loss to the Bengals. Gordon held an 18-6 edge in carries over Jaylen Wright, although neither back garnered a target.
Bengals WR Tee Higgins (groin/neck) was expected to be on a snap count entering Sunday’s game vs. Miami. He wasn’t a full-time player with a 69% snap rate, but his 82% route rate fell right in line with his season average. The issue: Higgins caught only 2 passes for 22 yards on a 12.5% target share. And he didn't account for any of QB Joe Burrow's 4 TD passes.
Lions WR Jameson Williams caught two of QB Jared Goff's three TD passes in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. That followed four scoreless weeks for the wideout to open the season, but it also came on his only 2 receptions for the game. Williams finished with a 2-47-2 receiving line on 4 targets, seeing 13.3% of Goff's total pass attempts for the game. That remains an issue for Williams, especially with the other receiving options healthy.
Steelers WR Roman Wilson is expected to miss "a couple of weeks" with the finger injury he suffered in Sunday's win over the Colts, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Wilson is still getting a second opinion on the injury. We'll let you know if his timeline changes, but Wilson is not a must-hold on redraft rosters. With WR Michael Pittman on IR and WR Ben Skowronek suffering a calf injury yesterday, the Steelers were down to Brandon Smith as their No. 3 WR. We should see targets condense around WRs D.K. Metcalf and Germie Bernard, TEs Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington, and RB Jaylen Warren in the short term.
Patriots WR A.J. Brown (ankle) is eligible to come off IR this week, but it doesn't sound like HC Mike Vrabel is counting on him. "I don’t know whenever he’ll be back, but he should help us," Vrabel said. "I hope that he’s going to help us. That remains to be seen yet: when he’ll be back. So, we’ll see how he does today and move from there.” NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said shortly after Brown suffered his high-ankle sprain that he was expected to miss 6 weeks. That timeline would have Brown back Week 8. We'll see if he hits the practice field this week, but fantasy owners shouldn't plan on having Brown for Week 6 fantasy lineups.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw for 190 yards and 4 TDs in Sunday’s win over Miami. He’s now hit 24 fantasy points – a high-end QB1 number – in three straight outings.
Saints TE Juwan Johnson managed just 4 catches for a season-low 16 yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings, on 5 targets. Part of the issue was play volume, as Minnesota nearly doubled New Orleans in time of possession -- 39:37 to 20:23 -- and Tyler Shough attempted a season-low 25 passes. But Johnson has also seen negative impact to his role when TEs Noah Fant and Oscar Delp are both available. Fant returned from a one-week injury Sunday to play one more total snap than Johnson and run nine routes to Johnson's 18. Delp trailed them, playing 17 snaps (37.8%) and running two pass routes.
Saints RB Alvin Kamara played a season-low 12 snaps in Sunday's loss to the Vikings, a game he entered questionable after a back issue limited his practice time during the week. Kamara finished with just 3 carries for 12 yards and 2 catches for minus-6 on 2 targets. CJ Donaldson led the New Orleans backfield at 19 snaps, carrying four times for 13 yards and catching his only target for 7. Kendre Miller posted a 10-30-1 rushing line -- scoring the team's lone offensive TD -- while running just one pass route.
Falcons QB Michael Penix suffered a rib injury late in Sunday night's loss to the Ravens and missed overtime. Penix was optimistic afterward that he'd be ready for Week 6, but he's scheduled for an MRI on Monday to get a better look at the damage, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Pitts had his breakthrough performance, catching five of 6 targets for 42 yards and a TD on his way to his first TE1 finish of the season. It came with the Falcons TE scoring his first TD this season, hauling in a 5 yard completion before the half of their overtime loss to the Ravens. Unfortunately, Pitts wasn’t able to expand his 15.2 PPR point season-high in overtime with QB Tua Tagovailoa throwing an INT on the second play of their possession to end the game.
London hauled in seven of 11 targets from two different QBs for 118 yards and finished Week 6 as a WR1, pending Monday Night Football. He made the final catch for the Falcons before QB Tua Tagovailoa’s INT in overtime ended the game. The fifth-year WR finished with 19.8 PPR points in the 30 -23 loss to the Ravens.
