The Patriots have traded LB Jamie Collins to the Browns. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Cleveland's giving New England a 3rd-round compensatory pick. (The upcoming NFL Draft marks the 1st time those picks will have been tradeable.) Collins is in the final year of his contract, so New England clearly didn't believe it would re-sign the young LB. The trade also indicates that the Patriots figured the league compensatory-pick system would have given them something later than a 3rd-rounder for losing Collins. Thirdly, this suggests the team is happy with rookie LB Elandon Roberts, who has seen his role grow this season. Collins should start quickly for Cleveland. We'd guess he'll take over for veteran ILB Demario Davis. The Browns will also need to re-sign Collins to make this a worthwhile move. New England gets a Week 9 bye before a Week 10 game against Seattle. Dont'a Hightower figures to be the top Pats LB for IDP owners in that game and likely the rest of the way. Keep an eye on Roberts' role and production, however. The move takes a playmaker out of New England's defense, though FOX's Michael Lombardi pointed out that Collins has done more freelancing this year than the Pats would like. For now, we're not adjusting the team D's outlook.

Recent Shark Bites

The Browns announced Wednesday that they've released LB Jamie Collins. The move provides $9.25 million in cap space ahead of free agency. Collins arrived via trade midway through the 2016 season and then signed a 4-year extension the following January. He made it through just 2 years of that contract. Collins rebounded from losing 10 games to injury in 2017 and played every contest last season. He finished in high-LB3 territory for fantasy purposes. Collins should garner at least 1 more starting opportunity. He'll turn 30 in mid-October.

Browns LB Jamie Collins missed Wednesday's practice with a sprained ankle but is expected to return Thursday, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. We'll keep an eye on Collins' status heading into the weekend.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns OLB Jamie Collins will miss the rest of the season after tearing his right MCL in Sunday's loss to the Lions. That positions James Burgess to assume Collins' starting role, but he doesn't bring anywhere near the scoring upside.

Browns OLB Jamie Collins left Sunday's game against the Lions in the 1st quarter with a knee injury and is questionable to return.

11:10am EDT 10/8/17

As expected, Browns OLB Jamie Collins (concussion) is inactive for today's game against the Jets. He did reportedly clear the league concussion protocol this week, though, so a Week 6 return seems likely.
