49ers release Hoyer | Shark Bites | Draft Sharks

The 49ers have released QB Brian Hoyer. He was 3rd on the depth chart after the big trade for QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Hoyer might latch on with the Patriots, who need a backup QB after shipping away both Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett this year. Hoyer spent the first 3 seasons of his career in New England.

Recent Shark Bites

The Patriots have signed QB Brian Hoyer to a 1-year, $2 million deal. The 34-year-old made 1 start for the Colts last season, completing just 46% of his passes for 204 yards, 1 TD and 3 INTs in a loss to the Dolphins. Hoyer does have experience with New England, playing there for his first 3 NFL seasons and then again in 2017 and 2018. We imagine the Patriots would like to see 2019 4th-rounder Jarrett Stidham win the starting job, but Hoyer will be around as insurance. New England could also still add a rookie QB to the mix.

The Colts have reached agreement with QB Brian Hoyer on a 3-year deal with $9 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports. Hoyer will back up Jacoby Brissett and could present some upside as a cheap DFS play if the starter goes down.

The Patriots and QB Brian Hoyer have agreed to a 3-year deal. He slides back in as QB Tom Brady's backup, a role he served from 2009 to 2011. Hoyer, of course, remains off the fantasy radar.

49ers QB Brian Hoyer was benched in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game in Washington. He completed just 4 of 11 for 34 yards before getting yanked. Rookie QB C.J. Beathard has entered the game for San Francisco. He could get a long look with the 'Niners trending toward 0-6.

The 49ers have agreed to a 2-year deal with QB Brian Hoyer, a source tells NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Hoyer played reasonably well for Chicago last year, completing 67% of his passes with 6 TDs and 0 INTs in 6 appearances. He's also familiar with HC Kyle Shanahan's offense, having played in it in Cleveland back in 2013. Of course, the 31-year-old isn't San Francisco's long-term answer. This signing makes the 49ers a strong bet to draft a QB this spring. If it's a 1st-rounder, Hoyer might quickly fall to #2 on the depth chart.
