Bucs RB Ronald Jones is a healthy scratch for today's opener against the Saints. That follows a disastrous preseason for the rookie. Jones is still worth stashing on fantasy benches but isn't close to making an impact right now. Peyton Barber will serve as Tampa's lead back today, with Jacquizz Rodgers as the #2.

Recent Shark Bites

Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones carried just 7 times for 23 yards (plus a TD) and caught 2 passes for just 4 more yards in Sunday's win over the Panthers. RB Leonard Fournette, meanwhile, racked up 103 yards and 2 TDs on 12 carries, while also leading the the backfield with 5 targets and 4 receptions (for 13 yards). So are the Bucs altering their backfield roles? "Not right now. I think everybody's role is good right now," Arians told ESPN's Jenna Laine. "[Fournette] still doesn't know enough of this offense yet to be the starter." The coach acknowledged that Jones did "screw up" the handoff that resulted in a fumble (charged to QB Tom Brady) but also called that "easily correctable." And he praised Jones' blitz pickup. We'll see how the work gets split in Week 3 and beyond. Consider Week 2 at least a warning that we can't count on lead touches for any particular player right now.

Bucs HC Bruce Arians said Thursday that RB Ronald Jones is still "our guy," despite the addition of RB Leonard Fournette. "It's his job," Arians added. "Nothing has changed for him. It's his job, he's got it, he's got to screw it up to lose it and I don't see that happening." Arians has spent all summer talking up Jones. But the Bucs have also added Ke'Shawn Vaughn, LeSean McCoy and now Fournette to the backfield. If nothing else, Jones is on a short leash. We'd only draft him as a RB3/4 now.

Bucs RB Ronald Jones was back on the practice field on Sunday, just 2 days after injuring his foot. We'll keep an eye on him, but it seems safe to continue drafting Jones as you were. He's had a strong camp and is line to open the season as Tampa's lead back.

Bucs RB Ronald Jones injured his left foot in Friday's scrimmage. HC Bruce Arians said afterward that he doesn't think it's serious but added, "we'll have to see." Stay tuned for updates. We're not moving Jones in the RB rankings right now, but he does come with elevated risk until we know more about this injury.

Bucs HC Bruce Arians has been impressed by RB Ronald Jones' work in pass protection in camp so far. That's been our biggest worry with Jones heading into 2020. Last year, he ranked 40th in Pro Football Focus' pass-blocking grades among 43 qualifiers. That skill set is even more important this year with Tom Brady under center. But, as Bucs insider Jon Ledyard notes, Jones will be "the all-around feature back in 2020" if he proves reliable in pass pro.
