The Panthers are finalizing a deal with QB Teddy Bridgewater, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Bridgewater made himself some money last year by completing 69.7% of his passes with 9 TDs and 2 INTs while leading the Saints to a 5-0 record in place of QB Drew Brees. Over that stretch, Bridgewater ranked 6th in Pro Football Focus' passing grades and 4th in adjusted completion rate among 29 QBs with 100+ attempts. He's also familiar with new Panthers OC Joe Brady from their time together in New Orleans in 2018, when Brady was an offensive assistant for the Saints. This move would seem to signal the end of QB Cam Newton's time in Carolina.
Update: ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Bridgewater is expected to sign a 3-year, $60 million deal.
Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) put in a full week of practice and isn’t listed on the final injury report. He’ll be back under center for Sunday’s game against the Vikings’ 14th-ranked QB defense.
Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, putting him on track to return for this weekend's game against the Vikings. He'll be just a mid-range QB2 for that one. But, despite QB P.J. Walker's solid Week 11, Bridgewater should still be considered an upgrade for Carolina's offense.
Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is "on track" to play against the Vikings this weekend, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. HC Matt Rhule said earlier this week that Bridgewater is expected to practice on Wednesday. We'll track his progress the rest of the week.
Panthers HC Matt Rhule said Monday that he expects QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) to practice Wednesday. That would suggest Bridgewater is trending toward playing against the Vikings in Week 12. Bridgewater nearly made the active roster for Sunday's win over the Lions but was a late scratch. P.J. Walker threw for 258 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs on 70.6% passing in Bridgewater's place. Walker would presumably start if Bridgewater's knee isn't ready by Sunday.
Panthers QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is active for today’s game against the Lions. QBs P.J. Walker and Will Grier are also both active, which might suggest some concern about Bridgewater’s ability to make it through the game. We’d avoid him in Week 11 fantasy lineups, but his availability is good news for WRs Robby Anderson and D.J. Moore.
