Shark Bites

Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey has been diagnosed with a sprained foot, according to HC Mike Tomlin. No word on the severity or how long he'll be out, but DHB probably won't be ready for Sunday's game against the Cowboys. That figures to get WR Markus Wheaton back on the field after he was a healthy scratch last week, but he'll be 4th in the pecking order behind Antonio Brown, Eli Rogers and Sammie Coates.

Steelers WRs Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) and Markus Wheaton (shoulder) are out for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. That leaves Cobi Hamilton as Pittsburgh’s #4 WR behind Antonio Brown, Eli Rogers and Sammie Coates.

Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey injured his ankle in the 1st half and was quickly ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Ravens. DHB had passed WR Markus Wheaton on the depth chart. Wheaton was a healthy scratch today.

The Steelers and WR Darrius Heyward-Bey have agreed to a new 3-year, $3.8 million deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  DHB saw just 39 targets this past season, hauling in 21 of them for 314 yards and 2 scores.  He'll remain no higher than 4th on the depth chart in 2016.  Note, though, that WR Markus Wheaton will be a free agent in 2017.  That could leave Heyward-Bey and Sammie Coates to battle for the #3 job.

Steelers WR Darrius Heyward-Bey is slated to step into the #3 WR job during Martavis Bryant's 4-game suspension, according to insider Ed Bouchette.  Raw rookie Sammie Coates isn't ready for a significant role yet, so Pittsburgh is forced to go with DHB.  The Steelers run a lot of 3-WR sets, so Heyward-Bey will see plenty of playing time.  But it'd be impossible to trust him in fantasy lineups.  He caught 3 of 5 targets, averaged 11 yards per catch and committed 1 drop last year.

The Steelers have signed WR Darrius Heyward-Bey.  The former 1st-round pick was given a prime opportunity to revive his career with the Colts last year.  He flopped magnificently, hauling in just 29 of 58 targets, averaging 10.7 yards per catch and committing 9 drops.  He finished 107th out of 111 WRs in Pro Football Focus' rankings.  Heyward-Bey is only 27 and still boasts impressive athleticism, but it's tough to imagine him turning things around in Pittsburgh.  He'll likely slide in as the #4 WR behind Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton and Lance Moore.
