Steelers HC Mike Tomlin admitted Tuesday that QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell and WR Antonio Brown "probably" won't play against the Browns this weekend. If they do, it won't be for more than a series or 2 in the meaningless game. None of the 3 should be in Week 17 fantasy lineups. Landry Jones figures to start at QB with Eli Rogers, Cobi Hamilton and Jesse James as his top 3 weapons. Rogers and James are lower-end fantasy options. We'll be curious to find out whether DeAngelo Williams will get a hefty workload. He'd be a strong fantasy play against a bad Cleveland run defense. Fitzgerald Toussaint is Pittsburgh's other option at RB.
Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), CB Cameron Sutton (hamstring), CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) and CB Levi Wallace (concussion) are out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. S Terrell Edmunds has cleared the concussion protocol and is off the final injury report. He missed last week's game. All the missing CBs can obviously only be good news for Bucs QB Tom Brady and his wideouts.
Steelers S Terrell Edmunds (concussion) and CB Cameron Sutton (groin, hamstring) are questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills. CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) has been ruled out. S Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), DL Cameron Heyward (elbow, ankle) and CB Levi Wallace (foot) are off the final injury report.
The Steelers have promoted QB coach Matt Canada to OC. The 48-year-old had been in that previous role for just 1 season, spending the rest of his coaching career in the college ranks. Canada had 9 different OC stints, most recently with LSU in 2017 and Maryland in 2018. Those teams ranked 76th and 69th, respectively, in points per game.
The Steelers are parting ways with OC Randy Fichtner, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. Fichtner has been with the team since 2007, taking over as OC in 2018. The Steelers offense struggled mightily down the stretch this season, averaging just 22.1 points and 347 yards over the final 7 games. There were also whispers of a bit of a power struggle between Fichtner and QB Ben Roethlisberger. We'll see who the Steelers tab as their next OC -- and if Roethlisberger returns for 2021.
The Steelers will rest OLB T.J. Watt and DE Cameron Heyward for Sunday's finale against the Browns, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. This is why you don't play season-long fantasy into Week 17: IDP Edition.
